LAHORE: The nomination papers for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's candidate for NA-120 by-election and former premier Nawaz Sharif's wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, have been challenged.

The seat fell vacant following the disqualification of Sharif as the prime minister by the Supreme Court on July 28.Β

Awami Tehreek?s Ishtiaq Chaudhry, who filed the objections with the returning officer, claimed that though Kulsoom disclosed her Iqama [foreign work contract]Β in the nomination papers, she failed to disclose the salary received through the contract.Β

Kulsoom also failed to show her position as deputy chairperson in the Iqama, according to Chaudhry.Β

NA-120 Returning Officer (RO) Mohammad Shahid accepted the objections for scrutiny.

The Supreme Court disqualified Sharif as the prime minister on July 28 under Article 62 (1) (f) of the Constitution over his failure to disclose un-withdrawn receivables constituting assets from a UAE-based company.Β

The nomination papers were submitted to the RO between August 10-12; whereas scrutiny of the papers will be held between August 15 and 17.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the final list of candidates will be issued on August 26 and the by-poll will be held on September 17.Β

On Friday, Kulsoom's nomination papers by her son-in-law MNA Captain (retd) Safdar.

In the 2013 General Elections, Nawaz won the seat by a substantial margin, defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Yasmin Rashid ? who will be contesting for the seat this time around too.Β
