England's all-time record scorer was on his way home after an evening out with friends, when he was stopped by the police near his home in Cheshire on Thursday night.
Rooney who announced his international retirement last week after 53 goals for his country in 119 appearances, spent the evening at a bar in Alderley Edge, believed to be The Bubble Room.
