What is the first thing that comes to your mind when something goes wrong or any mishap happens? Rectify the problem and ensure that it never happens again, right? But, in a rather bizarre incident, Pakistan’s national carrier PIA sacrificed a black goat at the runway before the takeoff of an ATR-42 aircraft. This move comes days after a plane crash that killed over 45 people. The French-built Turboprop aircrafts were grounded after the incident.

“The officials sacrificed a goat yesterday as a gesture of gratitude as the ATR aircraft resumed flight operations,” a PIA official said. Yes, you heard that right! Seriously, what era are we living in? Just when we thought that those days when people worshiped rain gods to shower blessings on us were gone, such incidents only make us question logic. The official further clarified that this was not a management-level decision.

On December 7, one of the ATR-42 flights crashed near Havelian and killed all 47 people on board. Post the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) grounded the fleet until all the aircrafts were subjected to shakedown tests and cleared for flight operations. Ever since the fleet was grounded, the PIA’s planes were very badly affected. Having said that, it’s really weird that officials believe in such superstitions, and we hope they have double-checked the aircraft and not just depending on the poor goat’s soul for the safety of their passengers.
