There was a huge queue outside an ATM at Cyberhub, Gurugram on Wednesday, 21st December 2016.There must be cash in the machine that would be the general assumption; what with Modi’s demonetization and the lack of cash in the economy—even the slightest hint of cash anywhere draws crowds. It’s like finding water in a desert… only worse, actually. I’d take my chances in the desert at the current rate.

But, wait. It wasn’t an ATM per se! Well, the machine was the same; just that it didn’t belong to a bank… It belonged to KFC! Yes, the fast-food chain that serves up some of that amazing chicken that Colonel Sanders invented years ago.

KFC set up an ATM that doled out Nashville currency which let the users redeem a free serving of the brand’s recently launched Nashville Chicken—a legendary offering abroad that is finally available at Indian KFC outlets, as well.

Each user had to answer a set of questions—right or wrong didn’t matter because they all won Nashville dollars which entitled them to the chicken.

It was definitely an excellent marketing strategy by the brand since people queued up either which ways—if they found out it wasn’t a proper money-dispensing ATM, they still got free chicken. A total win-win on both sides!
