WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif arrived on Tuesday for a three-day tour of the United States, where he was received by Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
The foreign minister is expected to meet US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to resume bilateral talks and work out ways to dispel tensions that cropped up after US President Donald Trump's August 21 speech.
Asif is also expected to have a meeting with the US National Security Adviser Lieutenant General HR McMaste and discuss bilateral relations and the situation in Afghanistan and Kashmir, as well as the new policy of US on South Asia.
The foreign minister will also address a gathering at the US Institute of Peace (USIP), Washington, on Pak-US relations on October 5.
The bilateral visits of Pakistani and American diplomats were scheduled during the recent visit of PM Abbasi to the US.
