ISLAMABAD: Authorities on Thursday seized 786 grams of heroin from a passenger at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) and arrested a suspect.

Officials of the Airport Security Force (ASF) said Islam Gul, a resident of Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was travelling to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from a private airline.

Officials said the contraband, locally known as 'ice', is worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. It had been hidden in secret compartments in the suspect's luggage. The suspect has now been handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force for further investigation.

Exactly a week ago, media reports stated that the ASF foiled another heroin smuggling bid at the airport.

The suspect, identified as Lal Bahadur and hailing from Mardan, was travelling to Riyadh through a private airlines' flight. A kilogramme of ice was recovered from him.
