ECP suspends 261 legislators for not submitting financial details

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday suspended the membership of 261 lawmakers after they failed to submit their financial details under sub-section 42A of the Representation of People Act (RoPA) by September 30.
The suspended legislators include Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's (PML-N) Captain (retired) Safdar, Talal Chaudhry, and Abid Sher Ali.
Seven senators, 71 Members of the National Assembly (MNA), 84 Members of Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Punjab, 50 from Sindh, 38 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 11 from Balochistan will not be able to participate in any legislative exercises following the suspension orders issued by the electoral body.
Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Yousaf, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Mohsin Ranjha, and Maiza Hameed are also among the suspended legislators.
Ayesha Gulalai, Sheharyar Afridi, Owais Leghari, former National Assembly speaker Fehmida Mirza, Arif Alvi, and Rasheed Godil are also among the National Assembly members who were suspended by the ECP.
The electoral body issued orders to the national and provincial assemblies to submit details of the assets owned by their members by September 30.
