FAISALABAD: A couple was made the target of a knife attack by unidentified assailants Saturday night in the city's Chak Jhumra area, Geo News reported, marking the latest of such horrific incidents that have left the nation terrorised.

Two unknown suspects attempted to stab or seriously wound a man and his wife near Sitara Chowk in the city's Chak Jhumra area late last night.Β

However, only the woman suffered knife injuries to her hand. She was subsequently transferred to the Tehsil hospital nearby, police sources revealed.

Authorities added that an investigation has been launched to probe the latest knife attack.

Unidentified attackers have been subjecting women in numerous major cities ? including Karachi, Lahore, and Gujranwala, among others ? to knife-related assaults since September 25, causing a nationwide panic.

At least 15 attacks by a knife attacker, riding a motorcycle, have occurred in Karachi's eastern district.

It was reported last week that the infamous Karachi knife attacker was nabbed from Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, in a joint police operation. The suspect, having successfully evaded arrest for such a long time, posed a challenge to the authorities.

"Investigations will disclose details about Waseem's involvement in the knife attacks in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Johar and nearby areas," Deputy Inspector General East Sultan Khowaja said.

However, police noted that they needed the suspect's custody for further interrogation to trace the main suspect.

Earlier this month, Karachi police had released pictures ? screengrabs from the CCTV footage ? of the assailant wherein he can be seen riding a motorcycle moments before attacking one of the victims.

"The suspect appears to be a thin man, aged 20-29," DIG East Sultan Khawaja had said, adding that "he appears to be 5 feet, 7-9 inches tall" and usually rides a red motorcycle.
