How To Save Space On iOS 11 By Changing Camera Settings

As Apple introduced iOS 11 to all their devices, there have been some changes that you may not be aware of. With iOS 11, Apple introduced a new format for photos call HEIF that stands for “High-Efficiency File Format.” The new format has introduced a way to store images on your iPhone by reducing the file size without compromising quality.

The smaller size enables users to take more pictures as it uses less storage space. HEIF is a new format which not really supported by most computer software and hardware. Hence, it can be a problem if you wish to transfer images to your laptop or a different device.

However, there is a workaround to this feature as you can change the settings to save pictures in HEIF format but export in JPEG. This way you can share images with any other device without having any hassles. For example, when you send a picture clicked by your iPhone via email, iOS 11 will automatically convert the file to a JPEG so that you the recipient won't have a problem opening the attachment on a different device. HEIF images work on Mac computers that are running on High Sierra. However, this is very useful for sharing images with a PC or Android smartphones.

Here's how you change the settings

Go to the Settings menu of your phone followed by Camera then Formats, and select "High Efficiency" as your format. Now after you need to go to Settings and then Photos and tap on Transfer to Pac or PC followed by Automatic. When you switch on this setting, the pictures will always export in a compatible format so that it is easier for you to access it in other devices.
