There is no doubt in my mind that the Pixel 2 XL is a great smartphone. I've been using it for a week and I have not faced a single issue. Having said that, the smartphone has been plagued with a few issues since launch, such as the troublesome OLED display.
However, a new problem has been discovered by a Reddit user who claims he received a Pixel 2 XL that did not even have an operating system installed.
Something is missing here.. Pixel 2 XL
Basically, this is a smartphone from the production line that may have missed the stage where the operating system is installed. This is not the first time a fiasco like this has occurred with the Pixel smartphone. If you do a simple a Google search, you can find one other person who has faced a similar problem. The Pixel 2 XL is not available in India until November 15th and there is no way to say whether this problem might be present in some Indian variants as well.

The user who suffered the problem went on to add that Google is replacing the device and has been compensated with a Google Play Gift Card. Google is also expediting the shipping of the replacement phone to reduce any inconvenience caused.

Google has not commented on whether this is a one-off problem or an endemic issue with the Pixel 2 smartphones. Needless to say, Google has to step up their quality control game in order to avoid a PR disaster in the near future that may affect sales. As for this little incident, let us hope that Google puts more work in ensuring that its Pixel 2 XL comes with an OS before it ships out to the owner.
