MANHATTAN: A massive blaze erupted late Friday night in a residential building here in Hamilton Heights area, with firefighting and security authorities responding to the scene immediately.

As of now, there is no word on any injury or fatality.

Around 100 firefighters are engaged in trying to douse the flames, Pix11 reported, that have sent dense clouds of smoke into the air, visible from most parts of the city.

The fire ? which started after 3 PM local time ? has consumed the upper parts of the six-storey structure, leading to what witnesses claim are portions of its facade falling down to the street.

Authorities have urged people to stay far from the area to avoid any injuries from the raining debris.
