The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is not just a brand name for anyone vying to be an engineer; it's supposed to be like a temple of learning. A stepping stone for which lakhs of students give up sleep and food and burn the midnight lamp, just to secure a seat in one of the most prestigious intuitions in the world. Shivansh Joshi was no exception, except, after clearing the exam, he decided to give up his seat to join The National Defence Academy (NDA) and serve the country instead.
It was a natural step and the fact that he topped his NDA exam speaks volumes about his dedication for the service. "I am inspired by those who made the supreme sacrifice of their lives for our country. I too want to contribute to the development of my country. I can do that better as a man in uniform”, he explained. He took no formal training for preparing for the NDA exam and that kind of speaks volumes about his decision. About the IIT entrance, he managed to score a whopping 97% there as well! It's not just his parents, but the entire nation is proud of him right now.
A big salute to the young boy who picked NDA over IIT. India needs more youngsters like Shivansh Joshi who put defending their country above everything else. ð Jai Hind https://t.co/wSqUy2zS40

— Venom (@quirky_bunny) November 29, 2017His father works with the LIC and his mother is a primary school teacher. It's a big decision for a 17-year-old, but nevertheless a brave one. Here's wishing him all the success in this new journey.
