RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Wednesday expressed sorrow over the demise of father of martyred Lieutenant Arsalan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, a 22-year-old Pak Army officer who hailed from Murree, embraced martyrdom on September 23, while commanding a post in Rajgal valley of Khyber Agency, which borders Afghanistan.

The post had come under attack by terrorists from the Afghan side of the border.

The father of the martyred officer, who the ISPR said was the only man left in the family, breathed his last on Wednesday.

"COAS deeply saddened on demise of father of Shaheed Lt Arsalan," the DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said in a tweet, adding, "Not only by the soldiers, sacrifices by our families continue."

"Pakistan Army holds every jawan as its family," the military's public relations wing said in a statement.

"The army also considers family of a martyr as its own," it added.
