KARACHI: Strong winds are expected to continue in the city and other plain areas of Sindh, as the weakening Cyclone Ockhi shows its impact on the coastal region of the province, the Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.

According to Regional Metrological Centre Director Shahid Abbas, Karachi will continue to see high-speed winds today and because of a lack of rains in the region, the winds will be dusty and lead to a polluted atmosphere.

The wind speed can rise up to 46 kilometres per hour, the Met said.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. Light rain-thunderstorm with light snowfall over the hills is expected at a few places in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Shallow foggy conditions are likely over few plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Today?s lowest minimum temperatures were recorded in Kalat, Quetta (-10°C), Kalam (-06°C), Dalbandin, Dir, Skardu (-05°C) and Gilgit (-04°C).

In Kalat, minimum temperature was recorded at -12°C on Tuesday, after 31 years. As per the Met department, the temperature in Kalat plummeted this low last on December 13, 1986. In Quetta, minimum temperature was recorded at -10°C on Tuesday ? a reading seen after 10 years there.
