SUKKUR: A Geo News cameraman was assaulted in Shamsabad area of Sukkur on Saturday while trying to film an intoxicated policeman.

The inebriated policeman attacked the cameraman while obstructing his coverage and snatched his camera.

The cameraman was beaten up more after he condemned the torture being meted out to him.

Following the incident, journalists staged a protest outside the SP Office in Sukkur and called for the arrest of the offenders.

According to the police, upon orders of ASP Usman Maroof, cases were registered against at least five people, including two police officers involved in the assault, who have been arrested.

Journalists ended the protest after the arrests were made.

Members of the media are often attacked from various quarters, official and private, while in the line of duty.
