Uber Is Exploring The Idea Of Flying Taxis As The Company Recruits NASA Engineer

If you remember, last October, Uber announced that it would like to expand its ride-sharing features to the heavens. Literally. It turns out that Uber is very serious about developing flying cars/taxis and they have hired NASA engineer Mark Moore to spearhead the company’s flying car project.

The project has been bestowed the name ‘Uber Elevate’ which is quite fitting for what Uber is trying to achieve. Moore has worked on developing transports that resemble a helicopter but are technically automobiles. The transports were designed to haul urban commuters from city to city which is essentially Uber’s business model.

The Next Web reports that “Moore hopes to escalate the company’s vision for “on-demand aviation” —- helping create the world where urban air transit systems are commonplace and tiny self-flying aircraft run on electric. More specifically, the flying cabs would have between 50 to 100 miles of flight capabilities on one charge, and could be hailed by pressing a single button on the ride-hailing service’s ubiquitous app.”

As for now, there is no confirmation on whether Uber will be launching the Elevate service anytime soon. However, we already know that Uber has been successfully testing self-driven cars and a flying taxi does not seem far fetched.
