CES 2018: Lenovo's Smart Display Is One Useful Gadget

If you were at CES last year or read about it, you may have noticed that it was all about Amazon's Echo Virtual Assistant. This year, it seems like Google is going all out with their offering and has partnered with Lenovo to make your home smarter. This is the new Lenovo Smart Display that has Google Assistant built into an 8-inch full HD touchscreen display and wrapped in a minimalist, modern design.

The Lenovo Smart Display can be used to gather useful information such as weather updates, live traffic tracking and even make video calls with Google Duo. You can even watch your favourite YouTube videos or play music via connected devices. All these actions can be undertaken by simply using your voice and nothing else. The Smart Display can also be used like Google Home where any question will be answered via text, image and voice. You can use it to ask for directions, turn on/off lights, play videos and set reminders/alarms.

The Smart Display is powered by the newly announced Qualcomm Home Hub Platform based on the Qualcomm SDA 624 SoC which features integrated CPU, GPU and DSP as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Thanks to this Qualcomm integration, users can basically control a range of smart home appliances such as smart lights and thermostats. It will come in two colours i.e. soft-touch grey or bamboo and it can be used either horizontally or vertically.

The Smart Display will cost $199.99 (INR 12,800) whereas the 10-inch version will retail for $249.99 (INR 16,000). There is no concrete launch date set for the two devices, however, Lenovo says it will launch sometime this summer.
