American actor and human rights activist, Ashton Kutcher, gave an impassioned speech to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Ending Modern Slavery. Kutcher was speaking as the co-founder of Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children.

Here’s a part of the speech made by Kutcher:

"The right to pursue happiness for so many is stripped away, it's raped, it's abused, it's taken by force," Mr Kutcher said.

He further added, "Technology can be used to enable slavery, but it can also be used to disable slavery.”

“Can we build the tools that are better than their tools to fight what is happening?" he asked.

The most stirring part of Kutcher’s speech involved him retelling an instance of a child being raped by an American man. "I've seen video content of a child that's the same age as mine, being raped by an American man who was a *** tourist in Cambodia. This child was so conditioned by her environment that she thought she was engaging in play," Kutcher narrated.

Kutcher’s digital firm has developed a "Spotlight" tool, which he said has helped 6,000 victims in 6 months. With more initiatives like this, child sexual abuse can be strictly monitored and reported, to help those in need.
