The Navratri season is here and like every year, a lot of us would be shying away from non-veg consumption.  Even for those who don't fast during the Navratri, it gets difficult to manage protein intake as they become pure vegetarian for the festival's sake. To help you with this, I have handpicked a few vegetarian protein sources that you can use in your daily diet to meet your protein requirements easily.

Ranging from Whey Protein Concentrate to Isolates, you have various available choices from various brands. You can stack up different flavors to make sure that you can increase your scoops per day without getting bored of the same taste. Protein Powders are a very convenient way to meet daily protein requirements during the Navaratris. A scoop of protein can easily replace 6 egg whites and two scoops can replace one chicken breast. Therefore, wherever you were consuming these two during your daily routine, replace them with whey protein.

2) Casein Protein Powders

Though Casein Protein is always an optional protein source, but since you don't have many options, so you can use this as well.  You would be consuming majority of the protein from whey which would be absorbed by the body very quickly. However, Casein provides you with slow digesting protein to give your body a continuous and steady supply of amino acids to build up the muscles. You can either use casein before bed or try to mix your casein with every scoop of whey.

3) Paneer

The real king of nutritious food items for vegetarians is paneer. It is made from milk and is high in protein. It is also a good source of casein protein. If you are concerned about the fat that comes with cottage cheese, you can opt for low fat cottage cheese which is made from low fat milk. Use it in various salads and cooked vegetables, and you can easily meet around 20 percent of your total protein intake from cottage cheese itself. The satiety factor of cottage cheese is an icing on the cake.

Unlike earlier, Greek yogurt is now commonly available in our neighborhood grocery stores. A commonly available size of 5 ounces has about 80 calories and gives you around 15 grams of protein. Another advantage of Greek Yogurt is that it is not high in fat as the regular yogurt. It's high in protein and almost negligible in fat. It is available in various flavors too to satisfy your taste buds at the same time.

5) Milk

Milk is one of the most conventional protein sources available out there. All your whey protein and casein protein powders are made from milk; therefore this has to be one of the good vegetarian protein sources. There are various varieties of slim milk available which have almost zero content of fat and contain the same amount of protein as regular milk. They are also fortified with Vitamin D and E making them more nutritious.

This is good protein availability per serving, considering the fact that it is vegetarian. Though you might want to stay away from a few exotic flavors like 'Malai' Chaap and 'afghani' Chaap in which high amount of fats are added in the form of cream and butter.
