The ongoing four-match series between India and Australia has witnessed almost everything there is to make a tour worth watching. Whether it was the Decision Review System (DRS) controversy or Ishant Sharma's animated face, the series hasn't had a dull moment so far.

Continuing that trend, the first day's play of the third Test in Ranchi was also full of entertaining events. But, there was one in particular that just left everyone in splits, even umpire Ian Gould couldn't contain his laughter.

The incident occurred in the 80th over of the match when Ravindra Jadeja was bowling against Steven Smith who was batting on 97. The third delivery of the over saw the Australian skipper missing the ball which lodged between his pads.

Wriddhiman Saha, who has taken two spectacular catches in the series so far, sensed an opportunity and jumped in from behind the stumps to get his hands on the ball while it was still stuck between Smith's pads.

Such was the intensity from Saha that the Indian wicket-keeper practically wrestled the Australian batsman to the ground in his bid to grab the ball, only to end up in an embarrassing situation. But that didn't deter Saha from appealing for a catch while Smith was lying flat on the ground.

To Saha's surprise and sheer fun for everyone else, the English umpire was so tickled by the scenes in front of him that he almost choked on his chewing gum.

The sum total of the incident was that Smith lost his footing and was flat on the ground, while Saha, also lay lengthwise on the ground, finally grabbed the red cherry and appealed for a catch.

Umpire Gould was nearly in tears of mirth and walked away shaking his head. But, neither Saha, nor Smith were amused at all, while the rest of the Indian team wore sheepish grins.

I can almost hear Steve Smith saying, "No Means No, Mate". #IndvAus pic.twitter.com/JXlNSwjXp1

I'm not sure which ball @Wriddhipops  went for. Looked really wrong on TV.

Smith survived this on field, not very sure about his marriage though. #IndvAus pic.twitter.com/9eFqnNkw8y

Dada instilled grit in team India. Dhoni had a street-smart approach.
