China reaffirmed its claim over Tawang by announcing ‘standardised’ official names for six places in Arunachal Pradesh, a few days after Dalai Lama’s visit to the city. “China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs announced on April 14 that it had standardised in Chinese characters, Tibetan and Roman alphabet the names of six places in ‘South Tibet’, which India calls ‘Arunachal Pradesh’, in accordance with the regulations of the central government,” state-run Global Times reported.
The Indian government has yet to make any official statement regarding this renaming matter, but as soon as this news spread on the internet, Indians didn’t waste any time to show their anger. According to people, this is a huge violation of India’s sovereignty and Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, with China having no right over it whatsoever.

The thing that irked the people the most was the fact that China referred to Arunachal Pradesh as ‘South Tibet.’ Many people said that if China can stoop to this level, India too should rename Tibet.
People on Twitter called out for the BJP and PM Narendra Modi to not take this lightly and send an important message to the neighbouring country.
#China took a serious step by naming areas of Arunachal Pradesh. India should respond by naming areas in Aksai Chin. #ArunanchalPradesh

— Shanti Lalan (@lalanshanti) April 19, 2017The official names of the six places using the Roman alphabet are Wo’gyainling, Mila Ri, Qoidêngarbo Ri, Mainquka, Bümo La and Namkapub Ri. After Dalai Lama announced his Tawang visit, China issued serious warnings to India, even threatening that it will take “necessary measures” to defend its territorial sovereignty and interests.
