This Army Veteran Cycled Across India For 183 Days Dedicating 2 Minutes For Each Martyr Weve Lost


Did you know that since independence, India has lost 21,000 soldiers? In a bid to show respect and reverence for them, Major General Somnath Jha, a 58-year-old retired Indian Army officer undertook an incredible challenge.

Paying homage to every martyr since 1947, Major Jha cycled 12,000 km in 43,582 minutes, passing through 29 states in the last 183 days, dedicating 2 minutes of his journey to each martyr.Β

The veteran finished his journey and reached New Delhi on Tuesday, concluding his journey yesterday by laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Accompanied by his wife, he began his journey on October 19 of last year, just 18 days after his retirement. He cycled across all Indian states over a period on 7 months, starting from Ambala Cantt, where he retired.Β

Major Jha’s future plans include undertaking a similar journey next year, once National War Memorial is dedicated to the Nation Indian Army. Let’s all salute this gem of a man! He totally deserves it.
