The Government Spent 3000 Crores On The 'Statue Of Unity' & The Nation Is Sinking In Unity

Well, India is finally home to the largest statue in the entire world. What an achievement! And it only cost the country just a little under Rs 3000 crore to be able to say that. Totally worth it, right?

Today was the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the Statue of Unity, built as a tribute to freedom movement icon Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary. Built at the cost of Rs 2989 crore, the statue obviously deserved a grand inaugural event and it was as grand as ever.

On the banks of the Narmada stands the majestic statue of a great man, who devoted his entire life towards nation building.

It was an absolute honour to dedicate the #StatueOfUnity to the nation.

We are grateful to Sardar Patel for all that he did for India. pic.twitter.com/q2F4uMRjoc

It took 250 engineers, 3,400 labourers and 33 months, but it's finally here.

Appreciate the #StatueOfUnity - no better tribute | India could have been a poverty-free country today with $10 Trillion economy if Sardar Patel had become PM in 1947. pic.twitter.com/zkw2rBT7xk

But, not everyone is feeling that patriotic today, with so many people not being able to get over the huge amount spent on it, and protesting by talking about how the money could've been used to help the people of the country and put to a much better use. Along with how the money could've helped with a number of things for the betterment of the country, the statue also cost a bunch of tribal communities living in the vicinity their homes as they had to be displaced for this ambitious project.

Well, the 'Statue of Unity' has definitely united people in saying how it was a waste of money. Here's what people are saying on Twitter.

The scariest thought.

Happy Halloween guys. Here's a scary thought, the government just spent 3000 crores on a statue.

Sure it will be.

Drinking game for salary day.

Have a shot every time someone says the cost of the #StatueOfUnity will be recovered through tourism.

That's amazing!

#AccheDin in #Kerala vs #Gujarat

Ache din are finally here?

The #StatueOfUnity is so tall that once you reach the top all you can see is Acchey Din

Umm.

The man whose entire politics is based on divide and rule is inaugurating the statue of a man who stood for unity of the nation. What a paradox!#StatueOfUnity #SardarVallabhbhaiPatel https://t.co/POaY4KkxOn

Hard hitting questions.

What did we ultimately achieved,
With 2689 Crore
How many world class schools
World class hospitals,
How many farmers loans,
How many homes to homeless
How many world class universities
My dear PM, can u answer please
U have made another place for crow to shit.

— PARVINDER S GHOTRA (@GHOTRAps) October 31, 2018

Need some answers.

For me this has no meaning. My kids end up playing in drawing room as there is no playground in our locality. No proper sanitation and cleanliness, bad roads. Sardar would have not liked to spend 3000 cr on himself. When will our leaders realize. POWER HUNGRY scums. pic.twitter.com/tC6rU7sDpL

So, they're not here.

Forget everything else, this is the most important question.

If Statues can be built in record time, then why can't other "important" things like roads and bridges?

— Lollipop (@imtiyazasadi) October 31, 2018

Should've kept the man's ideologies in mind.

Sardar Patel would have been appalled by the crude boastfulness of the ads in his name in today's newspapers. That his statue is taller than any in China, America, Japan, etc. That is certainly not how the Sardar would have measured national dignity and self respect.

— Ramachandra Guha (@Ram_Guha) October 31, 2018

Hypocrisy.

The people who had an issue with Mayawati spending public money on Ambedkar statues and parks are the ones celebrating the 3000 crore Sardar Patel statue.

— Rohini Singh (@rohini_sgh) October 29, 2018

Okay, then.

Arguably the most wasteful & disrespectful way to celebrate one of India's greatest leaders will be unveiled today in #Gujarat. #SardarPatel has been reduced to an election gimmick by #BJP. #Sardar and our farmers deserve better! This is a statue of #Modi in disguise. Rs. 3000cr!

— Siddharth (@Actor_Siddharth) October 31, 2018

The money really could've been put to better use.

Wish they had built an educational institution. What a monumental waste. Nice way of showing their 'Mine is biggest' #Modi marketing mentality. Let's pray all our tourists flock to see this supposed #StatueOfUnity.
