In Bollywood, sequels, remakes, and spin-offs are quite common these days. If a movie or character gets massive success, the makers often come up with spin-offs or sequels in the future. Many times, to increase the reach of a franchise, makers replace lead actors seen in the original version with bigger stars. There may be different reasons for replacements which even work sometimes. However, in most cases, fans miss seeing the original actors. The latest example is Bob Biswas. While Abhishek Bachchan is getting appreciation for his performance in the spin-off to Kahaani, a section of fans missed Saswata Chatterjee who played the original character.
Earlier as well, various actors including Arshad Warsi, Akshay Kumar too were replaced by others. Take a look at actors who were left out from the sequels or spin-offs of their hit films.
Abhishek Bachchan replaced Saswata Chatterjee in Kahaani spin-off, Bob Biswas View this post on Instagram
Bob Biswas, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Chitrangada Singh in lead roles, released on Zee5 recently. While Abhishek Bachchan fans loved his performance, a section of neutral viewers missed the aura created by Saswata Chatterjee onscreen. For the unversed, Chatterjee played the original character of Bob Biswas in Vidya Balan's 2012 film Kahaani.
Akshay Kumar replaced Arshad Warsi in Jolly LLB sequel, Jolly LLB 2 View this post on Instagram
The first film, featuring Arshad Warsi in the titular role, made a mark due to its likable characters, strong performances, and a good story. Nobody was expecting Jolly LLB to be a hit, however, the film proved everyone wrong and turned out to be a success. Also featuring Amrita Rao and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles, the movie even won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Taking the franchise forward, the makers roped in Akshay Kumar to star in the sequel which turned out to be a much bigger hit than the original film. But, fans still missed Warsi. After the success of Jolly LLB 2, there was a buzz that Kumar and Warsi will team up for the third part, however, there's no update on it yet.
John Abraham replaced Akshay Kumar Welcome sequel, Welcome Back View this post on Instagram
While the sequel fared well at the box office, it lacked the fun vibes which the first installment had. Akshay Kumar was loved for his comic timing in Welcome and fans missed him in the sequel. John did a decent job in Welcome Back, however, he just couldn't match the standard set by Akshay and the original film.
Randeep Hooda replaced Emraan Hashmi in Murder 2 sequel, Murder 3 View this post on Instagram
Before Murder 3, the popular erotic franchise belonged to Emraan Hashmi. The first two films, featuring Hashmi in lead roles, were huge hits and fans were expecting him to return with Murder 3. However, he refused to star in the third installment and Randeep Hodda replaced him. Upon release, the film turned out to be an average grosser.
Maniesh Paul replaced Ali Zafar in Tere Bin Laden sequel, Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive View this post on Instagram
Tere Bin Laden, which was released in 2010, marked the Bollywood debut of popular Pakistani singer Ali Zafar. After its release, the film received a positive response from critics as well as viewers and turned out to be a sleeper hit at the box office. The makers then decided to turn it into a franchise and returned with Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive in 2016 featuring Maniesh Paul.
