Ever since the release of Spider-ManΒ in 2002, superhero films became a talking point among the movie buffs. And after the release of Iron Man in 2008 that led to the launch of Marvel Cinematic Universe, superhero films turned into box office juggernaut that have now become a formula of success.Β
While Hollywood often gets it right when it comes to the superhero genre in movies, the Hindi film industry or Bollywood as it is popularly known, stays miles behind.Β
Hrithik Roshanβs KrrishΒ remains the most successful superhero in Bollywood followed by Anil Kapoorβs Mr India, Amitabh Bachchanβs vigilante in Shahenshah and Shah Rukh Khanβs G.One in Ra.One.Β
A few years back, Tiger Shroff too tried his hands at superhero movies but failed miserably as A Flying Jatt turned out to be a critical as well as a commercial misfire.Β
Among the current crop of actors, Abhishek Bachchan too tried to be an on-screen superhero with the 2008 dud Drona, a poor rip-off of Harry Potter films where Abhishekβs superhero character moves around in sherwani for a costume, literally.Β
These are not the only superheroes seen in Bollywood movies. There have been several others that flew under the radar. Take a look at some of the lesser-known superheroes in Bollywood below:Β
1. Shiva Ka Insaaf (1985) Β© Rupam Pictures
Touted to be Bollywoodβs first 3D movie, Shiva Ka Insaaf stars Jackie Shroff in the lead role of a superhero named Shiva.Β
Years later in 2016, Tiger Shroff played a superhero in A Flying Jatt that was quite similar to the superhero character played by his father in the 1985 film. The movie failed at the box office.
2. Maharaja (1998) Β© Navachitra Productions
Govinda, at the peak of his career, when he was churning out one comedy hit after the other, decided to shift gears and turned into a desi superhero Kohinoor in Maharaja.Β
What was Maharajaβs superpower, you ask? Well, he could talk to animals, melt metal and set things on fire by his mere look. Literally, if looks could kill.Β
Unlike other Govinda films of the era, Maharaja was a flop despite a fair amount of hype around its release.
3. Bal Bramhachari (1996) Β© Prakash Mehra Productions
Legendary actor Rajkumarβs son Puru Rajkumar made his Bollywood debut with the 1996 film Bal Bramhachari where he possessed special powers including super strength thanks to the blessings of Lord Hanuman.Β
The Prakash Mehra directorial bombed at the box office.Β
4. Toofan (1989) Β© MKD Films Combine
In 1988, Amitabh Bachchan played Shahenshah. The movie went on to become a success and gained cult status over the years.Β
A year later, in 1989, he once again turned to the superhero genre with the crossbow-wielding Toofan. But this time, things didnβt fall into place as the film failed to make a mark.Β
5. Ajooba (1991) Β© Aasia Films Pvt Ltd
Big B was not yet done being a superhero on the big screen as he donned the cape once again with Shashi Kapoorβs big-budget epic fantasy Ajooba.Β
The movie turned out to be a massive box office bomb.Β
6. Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988)Β Β© Jagapathi Internationals
Dharmendra played a Batman-esque vigilante called Teesri Adalat in this 1988 film also starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Chunky Panday and Neelam.Β
Similar to Batman, he even drove a Batmobile kinda four-wheeler in the film. The film was a success at the box office.Β
7. Zokkomon (2011) Β© Disney
After Taare Zameen Par, Darsheel Safary starred in and as superhero Zokkomon. The movie co-starring Anupam Kher and Manjari Phadnis flopped.Β
8. Alag (2006) Β© Subi Samuel Movies Pvt. Ltd.
In this box office disaster, Akshay Kapoor played a man with psychic superpowers. The sci-fi film also starred Dia Mirza and Tom Alter.Β
9. Mr X (2015) Β© Fox Star Studios
Emraan Hashmi played a cop with invisibility as his superpower. The Vikram Bhatt directorial was inspired by the 1964 film Mr X in Bombay starring Kishore Kumar.Β
10. Lo Main Aa Gaya (1999) Β© Jenma Films International
Starring Govindaβs nephew Vinay Anand, Lo Main Aa Gaya is the only Hindi film directed by Marathi stalwart Mahesh Kothare.Β
The lead character in the film is a police constable who gets the powers of Lord Hanuman.Β
11. Superman (1987) Β© Fine Art Pictures
This isnβt exactly an Indian superhero but Bollywood did try to Indianise Superman with this 1987 dud of the same name.Β
In the film, Puneet Issar played Superman while Dharmendra played the character of his father inspired by Marlon Brandoβs role in the 1978 Hollywood superhero classic Superman starring Christopher Reeve.

Even amid the coronavirus crisis, when theatres were closed for a long time, the entertainment industry was continuously churning out content via OTT platforms. From shows that left viewers pleasantly surprised to films that exceeded everyone's expectations, the year 2021 was filled with entertainment and fresh content. Like every year, 2021 too saw actors (newcomers as well as veterans) stealing the show with their power-packed performances and IMDb has now unveiled an annual list of top 10 breakout actors who were a part of the Indian web series and films.Β
The list has been prepared on the basis of page views of over 200 million monthly IMDb visitors. Actor Adarsh Gourav, who got rave reviews for his performance in The White Tiger, has topped the chart. While The Family Man fame Ashlesha Thakur and Malavika Mohanan have secured the second and third positions, respectively.Β
Here's a look at IMDb's top 5 breakout stars of Indian films and web series of 2021:Β
1. Adarsh Gourav View this post on Instagram
While Netflixβs much-acclaimed The White Tiger also featured Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in pivotal roles, Adarsh Gourav stole the show with his superlative and nuanced portrayal of a driver abused and exploited by his employer. For his memorable performance, the actor even received a BAFTA nomination. He was also a part of Hostel Daze seasons 2 which is available on Amazon Prime Video.Β
Currently, the actor has an international project titled Extrapolations with Meryl Streep and Kit Harington. He has also signed Zoya Akhtar's production venture Kho Gaye Hum Kaha co-starring Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi.Β
2. Ashlesha Thakur View this post on Instagram
Aslesha Thakur had featured in a few commercials, TV shows, and films before featuring in The Family Man, however, the Amazon Prime Video show proved to be a turning point for the young star. She played the character of Srikant's (Manoj Bajpayee) daughter Dhriti in The Family Man 2 and got nationwide fame for her strong performance. She was also a part of Sanya Malhotra-starrer Paggalit which too is available on Amazon Prime.Β Β
3. Malavika Mohanan View this post on Instagram
The south sensation, who made her acting debut with the Malayalam film Pattam Pole in 2013, earned critical acclaim for her performance in Majid Majidi's 2017 drama Beyond the Clouds co-starring Ishaan Khatter. In 2021, Malavika featured in the Tamil action thriller Master featuring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video which propelled her IMDb STARmeter rank this year.
4. Manoj Bajpayee View this post on Instagram
Bajpayee, who is among the finest performers of the country, reprised his role as a middle-class father and world-class spy in The Family Man 2 this year. The series was well-made and Bajpayee's performance was loved by fans. Besides the popular Amazon Prime series, he also starred in Ray (Netflix) and Dial 100 (ZEE5). Watching him playing different characters has been a treat for fans and everyone is looking forward to his upcoming projects.Β
5. Kritika Kamra View this post on Instagram
Kritika Kamra, who became a household name after playing the lead role in Ekta Kapoor's hit TV series Kitani Mohabbat Hai opposite Karan Kundrra, played a prominent role in Ali Abbas Zafar's Amazon Prime series Tandav. While the show's name got embroiled in various controversies, Kamraβs performance was brilliant. Besides her, Tandav also starred Saif Ali Khan and Gauahar Khan.Β
Shahana Goswami (Bombay Begums and The Last Hour), Sunny Hinduja (Aspirants, The Family Man 2, Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, and Jamun), Vikrant Massey (Haseen Dilruba, Switchh, and 14 Phere), Ahsaas Channa (Girls Hostel, Hostel Daze, Kota Factory, and Engineering Girls), and Sai Tamhankar (Mini and Samantar) are the remaining five names in the list.Β

It's not just Bollywood moviesΒ that have all the drama, but there is plenty of fireworks between the big actors all the time, mostly due to ego tussles or just mutual dislike for one another.Β
Now, actor Ajay Devgn is known to be one such actor who doesn't take nonsense from anybody, be it BollywoodΒ people or anyone else in real life.
Β© Twitter
Renowned to be someone who calls a spade a spade, he has spoken openly about his relationships with other stars, his reluctance to be part of Bollywood award functions, and other such parties.
As we know, Ajay and his wife Kajol have been happily married for the longest time, and as families go, if you have a fightΒ with one family member, you pick up a fight with the others as well.
Β© Twitter
This is what happened with Karan Johar, a very close friend of Kajol's back when Ajay's film Shivaay and Karan's film Ae Dil Hai Mushil clashed at the box office.
Β© Twitter
It was reported that things were so bad that Kajol apparently severed all ties with Karan, with Karan later stating in his book An Unsuitable Boy, "I wouldnβt like to give a piece of myself to her at all because sheβs killed every bit of emotion I had for her for twenty-five years. I donβt think she deserves me. I feel nothing for her anymore."
Wow! Pretty intense, right?
However, things ended up being okay between the two after both of them called off their fight, with Kajol and Ajay both even appearing on Karan's show Koffee With Karan. But did you know that Kajol once actually banned Karan from entering her and Ajay's house? Yep!Β
While speaking in an interview with novelist and former Bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna, Kajol revealed that she banned Karan along with some of her other Bollywood friends that included celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
Was it due to Ajay though?
Turns out it wasn't. It actually was her daughter.Β
Kajol, while speaking about the time her daughter was born, said, "I went mad. I have to say that the first six months of my life when I had my daughter, I first messaged all my friends that you know ... I message Karan and Manish and everybody, all my friends like if you really love me, you all will leave me alone for the next six months. Do not come and visit me, do not come and say hello to me. I don't want to see you, because I was like, I have to concentrate, I have to get this right. I can't afford to screw this up. This is just too bloody important in my life. I don't have the time and patience to cater to friends."
Β© Twitter
Wow! Blood does run thicker than anything.
We understand it, however. I think almost all of us know how mothers can be so protective.Β

A saree is the most graceful attire in a womanβs closet and has a stamp of approval by Indian society.Β
However, whatβs best about this six-yard beauty is that it can be styled multiple ways and can be modified into a modern and chic outfit too.Β
Women are experimenting with traditional wear and coming up with new and trendy ideas to style it, just like this woman who paired it with a henna blouse.Β
Β© Instagram/Creative Faces By Jain
Instead of a blouse made of fabric, she got a beautiful henna design painted on her body which gave the illusion of a blouse.Β
She wore it with a white saree for a wedding and her video is now going viral, partly for the trend she is setting and partly because she hurt the moral police on social media.
Watch the video here:
View this post on Instagram
Well, some people on social media are irked by this and trolled the womanΒ mercilessly. They shamed her for not wearing a regular blouse even though she has carried it pretty decently.Β
A user wrote, βWhy wear sari? Paint full body with mehendi shamelessβ Another wrote, Fashion ke naam pe kuch bhi? Kuch toh sharam karo (Anything in the name of fashion? Have some shame)βΒ Β
Β© Instagram/Creative Faces By Jain
This may sound like a strange trend to ditch the traditional blouse with a saree for a henna tattoo, but it is not new. In fact, brides and women are opting for it at weddings.Β
Henna blouses are the latest trend in bridal and wedding fashion and she is not the only woman who has tried this. It is artistic and aesthetic but clearly, the trollsΒ don't get it.Β
Β© iStock
However, there were some who loved the idea of a henna blouse and supported the woman for her unconventional style.Β
A user said, βItβs your choice. Donβt let the pricks bother you.β Another said, Super cool full marks to the idea and the lady so full of courage to carry this off.β
Β© Creative Faces By Jain
Whatever you think of the henna blouse, there is no need to shame a woman for her choice of clothes. She did a terrific job by pulling it off and we are here for it.Β Β

Earlier this year, Kriti Sanon starred in Dinesh Vijanβs Mimi. The music of the film was composed by maestro AR Rahman.Β
The film received a positive response from critics as well as fans and so did its music, especially the super-catchy song 'Param Sundari' sung by Shreya Ghoshal. The lyrics of the song were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
The song turned out to be a big hit garnering over 400 million views across YouTube, but it seems not everyone is happy with the track.Β
Recently, a social media user took to Twitter and wrote to Kriti Sanon accusing her, as a joke, of 'ruining his life' and asking her, βwhy did you do this?β
The reason behind his accusation is the word βParamβ in the title of the song. The man who is named βParamβ claimed that ever since the song was released online, he has been bullied βat least 1000 times alreadyβ.Β
His tweet read, βAs a kid nothing ever bothered me in school. I wasn't angry on anyone who teased my last name or my name itself. Since the time Kriti Sanon's Param Sundri dropped, I have been bullied by the song atleast 1000 times already. Why did you do this @kritisanon Why ruin my lifeβ.Β
Kriti Sanon was quick to respond to the user with a few laughing emojis and an apology.Β
She wrote, βoops!! Sorry!β The man then replied to Kritiβs apology with, βThis may minimise the damage. Thanks for being so good about this. Appreciate itβ.Β
Take a look at the tweets below:Β

β ParamChhaya (@maijadoohoon) November 26, 2021While he may have been bullied for having the same name as the title of a highly popular song, another social media user pointed out that on the brighter side, because of the very same reason, he got a response from Kriti Sanon.Β
He wrote, βAnd bcz your Name..You got reply from Param Sundari @kritisanon & thats how lucky you are...β

Apart from Kriti Sanon, Mimi also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Evelyn Edwards, Aidan Whytock, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak.

Itβs been a few weeks since Iβve been writing these movie reviews for old popular films and if there is one thing that Iβve realised is that almost no Bollywood movie, not even the funny and iconic ones, are usually made without a few fundamental and conceptual flaws, or without asserting something problematic. Case in point - Namaste London.
The movie, which once used to be my absolute favourite, is actually regressive AFΒ and weβre here to tell you why.
via GIPHY
Namastey London follows the life of Manmohan Malhotra (Rishi Kapoor) who is an Indian living in England with a family of two and a very regressive mindset.Β
Manmohan isnβt just your typical Indian sexist male who likes to take away all agency from women in the house and establish his authority as supreme. But he is also shown to be embarrassed by his own wife Bebo, whom he married back in Punjab and then got to London, away from her roots.
via GIPHY
From forcefully setting up her daughter for meeting Indian boys for marriage, without even taking into consideration or asking her what she wants, Manmohan comically fails at parenting during the first half of the film and how.Β
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Meanwhile, Jasmeet aka Jazz (Katrina Kaif) is your typical half Indian, half British brat who wears rebellion on her sleeve. She likes to defy everything her father says, and we donβt blame her (for most of it), considering she is an adult and shouldnβt be forced to marry someone she doesnβt like.
via GIPHY
But that doesnβt deter Manmohanβs spirits in the slightest, for he cat-fishes his wife and daughter to travel with him to India to see the Taj Mahal, but ends up making her meet boys for marriage.Β
While on their trip, Manmohan goes to visit his own family and friend, whose son Arjun Singh (Akshay Kumar) inevitably falls in love with Jazz.
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Now, that whole βfalling in loveβ, as romantic as it may have seemed back in the day, was in fact as creepy as ever. Arjunβs idea of falling in love constituted intimidating Jazz in the middle of the night on top of a terrace, constantly harassing her and coming on to her a little too strong.Β
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Meanwhile, Jazzβs father doesnβt give a damn about her daughterβs choice and forces her hand to marry Arjun. Which she does, but with terms and conditions applied.
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
She tricks Arjun into not getting their marriage registered and makes him fly back to London with her almost immediately. This way, when they arrive back, Jazz tells Arjun and her father how βlegallyβ she is still unmarried in London. Mic drop.
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Now, even though by this point, the movie had made a villain out of Jazz, she wasnβt wrong.Β
Fending for your own rights and choices, especially as a woman, shouldnβt be looked down upon and that is exactly what the movie did - made Jazz the βbad guyβ of the film simply because she didnβt want to abide by her fatherβs rules.
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
The rest of the movie where Arjun continues to pine over Jazz and get close to her under the pretext of friendship takes a rather predictable turn after it establishes how Charlie Brown (Jazzβs love interest) is in fact a bad choice for her.Β
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
This was laced with a lot of anti-British jokes which (even if they are fine, considering they colonised us and gave us hell for decades on end) were rather hypocritical coming from Manmohan who would live and earn there, but still, diss the country.Β
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Basically, Jiss thaali main khaya, ussi main thook diya.
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Towards the end as the wedding of Jazz and Charlie approaches, Jazz falls in love with Arjun and Arjun, patiently waits till the very end moment - at the altar of her wedding, to play the ultimate trump card.Β
He then discloses how he is not the Hindi-speaking simpleton that Jazz thought him to be, but in fact, was well-versed with the English language. Way to go for manipulating a woman, all this while!
Β© Viacom 18 Motion Pictures
Obviously, Jazz abandons Charlie Brown (and subsequently her dreams, ambitions, country, friends) to marry Arjun and move to a village in Punjab with him.
The End.

BollywoodΒ stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar have a crazy fan following, especially within India where people can quickly end up getting too close to their much-loved stars.
Now, while most of the time, actors have their bodyguards in close proximity for their protection, one can never be too sure about miscreants or criminals wanting to do harm to the superstars.
Β© Reuters
This is the reason why many Bollywood superstars have now opted for buying special bulletproof and bomb-proof cars, in order to just add that extra layer of protection for themselves and their families:
1. Shah Rukh Khan (Mercedes Benz S600 Guard) Β© Instagram
Shah RukhΒ is obviously the Badshah of Bollywood and clearly needs protection most of the time.
Β© Mercedes
Being one of the world's highest-paid actors, SRKΒ put his money to good use by purchasing a bomb-proof Mercedes Benz S600 Guard.
The jet black-coloured car, worth around 10 Crore rupees, provides the ultimate protection against mishaps.
2. Hrithik Roshan (Mercedes Benz V-Class) Β© Instagram/Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik also opted to buy an armoured car for the protection of his family.
The Super 30 actor reportedly purchased a Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which is equipped with innovative lightweight armour in order to provide protection to the car.

It can also withstand an explosion of two hand grenades that are detonated simultaneously below the minivan floor.
3. Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Rolls Royce Phantom) Β© Instagram/Priyanka Chopra
PriyankaΒ is a global superstar having one foot in Bollywood and the other in Hollywood.

This is the reason why the actor chose to invest in the armoured version of Rolls Royce Phantom, which she is reported to have customized even more according to her requirements.
4. Aamir Khan (Mercedes Benz S600 Guard) Β© Instagram/Aamir Khan
As per reports, Aamir Khan chose to buy the bomb-proof car after getting calls from the underworld.
Β© Twitter
Aamir is one of India's biggest actors and there is obviously a need for his protection more than anything, especially after a threat like that.
5. Kangana Ranaut (BMW 7 Series Guard) Β© Twitter
Kangana, for all the controversies that she is involved in, can be an easy target for her enemies, which is a reason why she takes her protection very seriously.
The actress reportedly invested in a specialized BMW 7 Series Guard which has bullet-proof capabilities.
Priced around 2.14 Crore rupees, Kangana's car is luxury mixed with ultimate security.Β

The Tamil film industry, apart from giving us some of the best tracks in the country that are still used as party bangers, has also given us raw entertainment in the form of fight scenes - the unabashed, crowd-pleasing, whistle-extracting kind.Β
via GIPHY
While production value of most of them are inimitable, it is noteworthy that there are multiple actors in the Tamil film industry who actually are super fit, and can effortlessly hold their own in an unexpected street fight IRL.

Keeping that in mind, here's a list of the 7 fittest Tamil actors who are super strong IRL and can actually kick ass in a real fight.Β
7. Ajith Kumar View this post on InstagramIt's been decades since Thala Ajith has been entertaining us with his OG moves. He's a pro at action scenes - that bit is a no-brainer - but fans were taken aback when he went through a hardcore transformation and sported a jacked physique, replete with six pack abs for his movie 'Vivegam'. The man is experienced, gives his 100% for his fight scenes, and if he could do that in his fifties, he is fit enough to handle a street fight.
