    Elation turned to despair as Rahul Tripathi smashed Ravichandran Ashwin for a straight six down the ground and confirmed Kolkata Knight Riders’ spot in the final of the IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings.

    At one point, it seemed like he would seal the deal for his team and help them reach their second consecutive IPL final, but Tripathi’s lusty blow on the penultimate delivery of the final over sent them crashing out of the tournament.

    — Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) October 14, 2021 Reacting to Ashwin’s performance for Delhi Capitals throughout the IPL 2021, Sanjay Manjrekar ripped into the off-spinner, describing him as a complete waste in the shortest format. 
    However, Manjrekar did clarify that in Test cricket, Ashwin is a great asset to have but when it comes to T20 cricket, he wouldn’t ever pick someone like him in his team. 
    The cricketer-turned-commentator further argued that when a player is going through a lean patch there is still a hope that he would bounce back strongly. But with Ashwin, it wasn’t the case because he has been bowling in this same template for several years now.

    “We have spent far too much talking about Ashwin. Ashwin, the T20 bowler, is not a great force in any team. And if you want Ashwin to change, I don't think that's going to happen because he's been like this for the last five-seven years. I can understand us dwelling on Ashwin in Test matches where he's fantastic. Him not playing a single Test match in England was a travesty. But to spend so much time on Ashwin when it comes to IPL and T20 cricket,” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo. 

    “I think he has shown us in the last five years that he's bowled exactly the same and I would never have somebody like Ashwin in my team because if I got turning pitches, I would expect people like Varun Chakravarthy or Sunil Narine or [Yuzvendra] Chahal and how they do their job, they get you wickets," he added.

    The carrom ball expert is one of the most loved cricketers on social media and normally, whenever Manjrekar says anything against him, his fans always come out in his defence. However, this time around, a major chunk of fans switched sides and agreed with Manjrekar’s analysis.

    They also felt that Ashwin’s performance in the IPL was below-average and while he continues to impress in red-ball cricket, he doesn’t have that spark in him to succeed in the shortest format.

His performance dipped considerably from last season because playing on the same surfaces last year, the former CSK player had picked up 13 wickets in 15 outings. 
    However, this year while other spinners enjoyed bowling on the spin-friendly tracks in UAE in the second half of the competition, Ashwin couldn’t make most of the conditions on offer. 
    Rather than relying on his stock off-spinning delivery, Ashwin bowled too many variations and it hampered his line and length so much so that he became the least threatening bowler in his side, despite being the most experienced.

    Washington Sundar’s injury opened a window of opportunity for the 35-year-old spinner as he earned a place in India’s limited-overs squad for the first time since 2016. However, given how he has performed in the year, it’s highly unlikely that he will feature in India’s Playing XI and he has no else but himself to blame.

    With just a couple of days to go for the T20 World Cup 2021 to begin, the Indian cricket team revealed their fan jersey for the tournament called the ‘Billion Cheers Jersey’. It is designed to pay homage to the die-hard fans of the team and their cheering has been converted into noise frequency patterns running diagonally on the t-shirt.
    It looks decent and the boys look pretty good wearing them as well. However, it is the poster in which Indian cricketers KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are seen featuring, that has seemingly created a big stir among the fans.

    Twitter user @NotMK45 recently shared the same picture from his social media handle suggesting that the team vice-captain Rohit Sharma was pointing towards ‘India’ printed on the jersey, while the rest of his teammates were pointing towards the BCCI logo, implying that Sharma plays for the country while others play for their cricket board which pays them big money.

    As petty as that sounds, the message seems to have triggered a lot of people for a lot of reasons, all of whom flocked to the Twitter post to vent their frustrations.
    First, there are people who backed up this claim and praised ‘Hitman’ for always putting his nation ahead of everything else, including money. They called him “the most genuine player of this current era” and asked others to learn from him.

    The last cheeky jab relates to the long-running gag of the Pakistani fan breaking his television in the past whenever there is an India-Pakistan match during the world cup and his side ends up on the losing end.

However, this time around, the angry fans are blaming their opener, Shikhar Dhawan, for being the one who started off extremely slow and didn’t help his side get enough runs to protect in the second half of the match.

    Opening the batting with Prithvi Shaw, the 35-year old southpaw batter took 39 deliveries to put up 36 runs on the board. During his time on the pitch, he hit just one 4 and two 6’s.
    His opening partner, Shaw had a rather stormy start in the power play and struck two 4’s and one 6 in the first 11 balls that he had faced. After scoring 18 runs, he lost his wicket to an LBW appeal by Varun Chakravarthy.

    Then came Marcus Stoinis at the number three spot and this is potentially where the match slipped out of the hands of Rishabh Pant’s side. When Shaw lost his wicket, the DC scoreboard read 32/1 in 4.1 overs. By the time Stoinis got out, Dhawan and he had managed to put up just 39 runs in 44 deliveries.
    Things got even worse by the time Dhawan lost his wicket as at that point, DC were at 83/3 in 14.1 overs and in big trouble too.

There was uneven bounce and the turn on some of the deliveries made it borderline impossible to gauge the direction in which the ball would go after the bounce.
    Additionally, Dhawan has been one of the most consistent batters in the entire league this season. In the 16 matches that he had played, he scored 587 runs with a strike rate of 124.62 and was the third leading run-scorer in the race for the orange cap.

    Unfortunately, by the time it was Kolkata Knight Riders’ turn to bat, the Sharjah pitch had retained much of its batting-friendly characteristics, and their opener, Venkatesh Iyer made the most of it, scoring a mighty 55 off 41 deliveries. However, Iyer’s partner Shubman Gill played a relatively slow innings and scored 46 runs in as many balls.
    Having said that, one has to give credit to the exceptional bowling attack that the Delhi team has. Not only were they able to stretch the match till the very last over, but they were also within winning distance if they'd had just a few more runs to defend.

    Ever since Aryan Khan has been detained by NCB along with several others after a cruise party was raided, the topic has been the centre of all discussions on Twitter with people sharing their opinions on the entire episode.
    After the court hearings, it was revealed that NCB hadn’t found any drugs on him but they were investigating his WhatsApp chats followed by the court rejecting his bail plea. "Aryan Khan sourced drugs and was in touch with some persons abroad who appear to be a part of an International Drug Network for illicit procurement of drugs. WhatsApp chats reveal the accused was in touch with a foreign national for a bulk quantity of hard drugs," the statement of the anti-drugs agency read.

    Just a few days ago, it was revealed that no special treatment has been given to Aryan. According to a report in India Today, Aryan has not been getting any special privileges as far as his food is concerned either. He is reportedly eating the food that is supplied at the NCB mess, just like the others. 
    It has been almost six days since Aryan Khan has been lodged at Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail. Now, some shocking details about Aryan’s condition in the jail have found their way to social media. According to a report in Bollywoodlife, Aryan is having a really tough time in jail. And here's what the online reports suggest about his health:
    1. Aryan hasn’t been consuming the food that’s served to all the other inmates in the jail. He has been surviving on biscuits taken from the jail canteen. SRK, who’s in constant touch with the authorities, is also worried about his health.

    2. He hasn’t been drinking enough water in order to avoid using the jail’s toilet. The jail authorities are also concerned about his health and have been asking him to use the toilet but he hasn’t been responding to them in this regard.

    Varun Chakravarthy has been one of the key orchestrators of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) remarkable comeback in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. 
    Alongside Sunil Narine, he has been KKR’s most consistent bowler, bowling inside the powerplay, towards the death, picking crucial wickets, all this while conceding less than seven runs an over.

    Facing RCB in the Eliminator, the mystery spinner bowled an economical spell, conceding only 20 runs in his four overs. His tight bowling dried out the run-scoring opportunities in the middle overs and Virat Kohli’s men failed to post a challenging total.
    In the Qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals, he not only stopped the run flow but also dismissed their most in-form batters in Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.

    Despite his brilliant bowling, there is something that has angered the Indian cricket team fans, who are furious with the fact that he has chosen to play for KKR, despite not being 100 percent fit.

    He was seen limping off the pitch during the Qualifier 2 in Sharjah and fans believe if he continues to play for KKR, he might aggravate his knee injury and could even miss the T20 World Cup, which is just around the corner.
    Chakravarthy has been picked as a surprise package in India’s T20 World Cup squad and if he could remain fit, there is no doubt he would be the front-runner to lead India’s spin-bowling attack alongside all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

    According to reports, Chakravarthy’s knee injury was first reported after KKR’s last league match but he still kept on playing for his franchise in the playoffs, two matches within 72 hours.

    As per a Press Trust of India report, Chakravarthy’s knees are not in the greatest of conditions and he has played the last couple of matches for his franchise through extreme pain. 
    The grimness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that had it not been for the T20 World Cup, the selectors wouldn’t have risked him playing.

    “Varun’s knees are not in the greatest condition. He is in pain and trust me, had it not been in a T20 World Cup, perhaps even Indian team management wouldn’t have taken the risk of playing him,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

    Now, the question is if his condition is this serious then why, instead of resting, is he still playing for the franchise? 
    Isn't the Indian team more important than any IPL franchise? Where are the selectors? Why haven’t they asked him to give himself ample rest ahead of the World Cup? Who is taking calls for him -- the player himself or the franchise is forcing him to play?

    These are all questions that need to be answered but only one player can answer and unless he decides to, we might never know what is transpiring behind the scenes.

    The stage is set for the final of the IPL 2021, KKR will be taking on three-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. While CSK players will be coming after two days of rest, the KKR players don’t have much time to recuperate.

    If at all KKR want to redeem themselves, they should not force Chakravarthy to feature in the final. 
    Having gone through this heartbreak last year, the spinner knows what it feels like to be withdrawn from India’s T20 squad due to injury and if he is sensible he wouldn’t want to go through the same route once more.
