Former Indian cricketer and one of the more controversial commentators of the present era, Sanjay Majrekar feels that all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is not an ‘All-Time Great’ and has a problem when people refer to him as that.
In a video conference by ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar gave a couple of reasons why Ashwin hasn’t met his expectations to be known as an ‘All-Time Great’.

"Ravichandran Ashwin, with due respect to him, I think he's a great guy at what he does, but when people start talking about him as one of the all-time greats, I have a few problems with that," Manjrekar said.
"One basic problem that I have with Ashwin is that when you look at SENA, the countries for batsmen and bowlers, places where Indians find themselves outside their comfort zone - it's amazing that he doesn't have a single five-wicket haul. Not one five-wicket haul in all these countries," he added in the video.

"The other thing - you talk about him running through sides on Indian pitches, when pitches are suited to his kind of bowling. But in the last four years, (Ravindra) Jadeja has matched him with wicket-taking ability throughout a series.
"So, Ashwin is not a guy who soars above the others. And interestingly, in the last series against England, Axar Patel got more wickets than Ashwin on similar pitches. That is my problem with accepting Ashwin as an all-time great."
His words made the fans of the Chennai star trigger almost instantly, while hopping on the internet to let the former cricketer hear a mouthful.
We don't need to tell sanjay manjrekar how good ravichandran ashwin is.just ask Alistair cook pic.twitter.com/ulwBohLG0J
    — Last Human (@pLastHuman) June 6, 2021 So acc. to Mr. Manjerkar a 7 wicket haul across two innings of Edgbaston by R. Ashwin is an inferior record because it doesn't contain a fifer. R.I.P. Logic. pic.twitter.com/6qbzH0srF0
    — The Cricket Philosopher (@outof22yards) June 6, 2021 I dont understand whats wrong with @sanjaymanjrekar and why can't he respect Indian players more. If Axar got more wicket, Ashwin was not performing badly. Infact he supported Axar aptly in the conditions where England were facing issues against left armer.
    — CS Jigar Shah (@FCSJigarShah) June 6, 2021 As usual stirring controversy before a major final. Did it with Jadeja throughout the WC and now with Ashwin before the WTC final. If anyone was responsible for wins in Australia and vs England at home it was Ashwin. Also don't forget his performances in 2019 at home.
    — Ashish Aggarwal (@ashishmanutd7) June 6, 2021 I too have a lot of problems on you being called a "cricket expert"
    — hariharan. v (@harihar20912609) June 6, 2021 Experiencing severe backlash online, the expert ended up shooting a tweet, justifying his words on Sunday.
‘All- time great’ is the highest praise & acknowledgement given to a cricketer. Cricketers like Don Bradman, Sobers, Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Virat etc are all time greats in my book. With due respect, Ashwin not quite there as an all-time great yet. #AllTimeGreatExplained

However, this response didn’t lead to the rage of Ashwin’s fans simmering down but only made it worse. Now the tweets have become more about a direct comparison between the two and let’s just say, Manjrekar is not winning that battle.
Whosoever is "revered" self proclaimed Xpert Mr Manjrekar to comment??Manjrekar can rest easy with his unsurpassable' laurel of having scored India's slowest & World's 5th slowest Ton ever! Btw,Ashwin has more Test Tons than "revered" Mr Manjrkar.Phew!!

The first of two Tests between England Vs New Zealand remained a nail-biter till the very end of the clash and goes on to show what the Indian cricket team will be facing off against during the World Test Championships final between 18 and 22 June.
However, on Sunday during the match, the cameraman caught a glimpse of a couple of spectators in the stands celebrating with each other while a lady carried a bottle of champagne in her hands.
They are allowed to carry a bottle of champagne and drink in the stadium in England.

Stadiums in India don't even allow to carry the paper glass of water from the counter to our seats. #ENGvNZ pic.twitter.com/y0rHKVoitc
    — Vinesh Prabhu (@vp1994) June 6, 2021
This quickly caught the attention of the Indian fans of the game, who got into a hilarious but extremely important discussion about why exactly are we not allowed to carry alcohol, or even soft drinks to the stands when going to watch a match.
One of the most common arguments came in the form of the lack of sanitary and hygiene-related discipline which is put on display during these matches, especially in India and it happens way more frequently than any educated person would expect to see.
We don't even put our trash it dustbin do you think we even deserve to carry anything inside the stadium?
    — maharshi jesalpura (@maharshiJ) June 6, 2021They can carry literally everything. There's even seating. They setup their own camps. For them Cricket is an Experience. They clear their litter at the end. We have a long way to go.
    — Dharma Chandru (@dharmachandru) June 6, 2021Then came the issue of the way fans behave during the games on Indian soil. From balling up papers and throwing it on the players to creating a scene for tiny problems, our fans are infamous for being not the most “well-behaved” spectators in the world.
Safety first. Coz overseas they don’t even throw a paper inside and our crowds aren’t disciplined enough to control themselves 100%. All it takes one to throw something and mass follows, unfortunately and that behaviour makes it difficult for genuine fans.
    — Prabhu (@Cricprabhu) June 6, 2021That also depends on crowd manners and behaviour. In India due to some maniacs in crowd all these restrictions are there(for e. g coin ban for common spectators) most of the ground in SENA are open without any grills at lower tier.. Becoz spectators maintain and follow discipline
    — Amey Oke (@okeamey) June 6, 2021Consider allowing Alcohol in a glass bottle in stadiums like Kanpur , Kolkata !!! One word, Fans in SENA countries are more civilized when it comes to crowd behaviour towards the players and playing field !!!
    — Deepak Sachin (@DeepakSachin93) June 6, 2021Bottle dur ki baat hain, paper lekar gaye toh aeroplane bankar udayenge game ke bich me
    — Dilip Jain | दिलीप जैन 🇮🇳 (@dilipjain1979) June 6, 2021Finally, came the more business-oriented people, talking about how allowing the fans to bring items such as drinks and food from home would lead to the loss of opportunities for the stadium vendors to make a buck or two and maybe that’s why the stadiums in India do not allow this norm.
If we bring our own food it's bad for business same as in theatres. Everything aside it's wonderful to see full packed stadiums anywhere. The Englishman claps, the West Indian drums, the srilankan trumpets, the Australian cheers and the Indian roars it's the Cricketing Culture.

    — new हूँ (@so_follow_u) June 6, 2021It is safe to say that the BCCI will not be allowing alcohol inside the stadiums anytime soon. For now, the only thing the fans of the Men in Blue can do is sit back and hope to see their stars put up a show during the one-off WTC match against Kane Williamson and the Blackcaps and finally help skipper Virat Kohli realise one of his biggest dreams, winning an ICC Trophy for the country.
