    ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday took suo motu notice of Nehal Hashmi's speech in which he threatened the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif?s unidentified ?enemies?.
    The CJP has also summoned Hashmi on Thursday.
    Earlier, Prime Minister suspended the party membership of Hashmi and directed him to tender his resignation from Senate, informed Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb.

    The party authorities have also issued a show cause notice to the PML-N leader and have instructed him to step down from the party position of General Secretary PML-N Sindh.
    Sources have informed that Special Assistant to the PM on Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani summoned Hashmi lately to the PM office to convey the displeasure of the premier over his statements.  
    Dr Kirmani told Hashmi that PM Nawaz has taken strict notice of his statement and demanded him to give clarification over his speech.
    Earlier, a video emerged of a Nehal Hashmi speech in which he threatened the prime minister?s unidentified ?enemies?.
    "The one you are investigating is the PM's son," roared Hashmi.
    Without identifying who he was referring to, Hashmi said, ?You will not be spared; you are in service now but remember you will retire tomorrow.?
    "Those investigating us [must know] we will observe your day of judgment,? he stated further.

    In the video, Hashmi also lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan, casting doubts over the money trail of his Bani Gala estate. ?We will reduce the space in this country for your kids and your family," he added.

    However, talking to Geo News later, Hashmi said he was referring to politicians and not anyone else.
    ?The retirement reference was just rhetoric, I am a lawyer myself and was not referring to judges,? he claimed. He explained that those who take everything from Pakistan yet sing to others? tunes were my target. 
    'Suspension right step'
    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Naeem-ul-Haque while talking to Geo News said that Hashmi?s membership suspension was the right step.
    ?Nehal Hashmi has lost control of his senses,? said Haque, adding that such people should not be a member of the Parliament or the provincial assemblies.
    Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Saeed Ghani also condemned Hashmi?s speech, saying that whatever he said was part of the PML-N?s mindset.

    Terming the remarks inappropriate and unfortunate, the minister assured that action would be taken against the party member. 
    "De-seating Nehal Hashmi"
    Opposition leader Khursheed Shah said that in the National Assembly session on Thursday, the Opposition would demand that Nehal Hashmi should be de-seated.
    Shah said that the institutions have been threatened.

    ?Will not allow the president to speak a word tomorrow in the house,? said the Opposition leader.
    The threatening of the JIT members is beyond reason, he said, adding that ?hooliganism would not be allowed?.

    Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher paid homage to the victims of a suicide bombing in his hometown, telling the crowd "Manchester I love you" on a stage lit up by 22 candles, British media reported.
    Britain's worst militant attack in 12 years targeted an Ariana Grande pop concert in the northern English city last week.
    Gallagher ended his first solo concert on Tuesday with an acapella version of "Live Forever", one of the biggest hits of the 90s group he fronted alongside brother Noel.
    Gallagher will donate the proceeds from the performance to a fund supporting the victims and applauded when the crowd chanted "Stand up for the 22."
    "In total shock and absolutely devastated about what's gone down in MANCHESTER sending Love and Light to all the family's involved LG x" he tweeted after the attack.
    Grande will return to Manchester on Sunday to headline a star-studded concert, including Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, to benefit victims.

Photo: AFP SYDNEY: The growing amount of fast-moving space debris orbiting the Earth could lead to catastrophic collisions with satellites, hurting economies, researchers warned Wednesday ahead of a summit to coordinate efforts to remove the junk.
    There are an estimated 170 million pieces of so-called "space junk" -- left behind after missions that can be as big as spent rocket stages or as small as paint flakes -- in orbit alongside some US$700 billion of space infrastructure.
    But only 22,000 are tracked, and with the fragments able to travel at speeds above 27,000kmh (16,777 mph), even tiny pieces could seriously damage or destroy satellites.
    "The space junk problem has been getting worse every year," Ben Greene, head of Australia´s Space Environment Research Centre which is hosting the two-day conference of international space environment scientists in Canberra, told AFP.
    "We´re losing three or four satellites a year now to space debris collision. We´re very close, NASA estimates, of within five to 10 years of losing everything."
    Greene added in a statement that "a catastrophic avalanche of collisions which could quickly destroy all orbiting satellites is now possible", noting that more collisions were creating extra debris.
    With society heavily dependent on satellites for communication and navigation, and powering key industries such as transport, finance and energy, the growing cosmic junkyard could threaten economies.
    "The Australian economy is entirely dependent on space," Greene said. "We´re a big country with few people and the only way we can service it, whether it´s with surveillance, safety or search-and-rescue, is from space."
    The barriers to entry for building spacecraft were also falling, making it easier for firms to launch their own objects, said space debris expert Moriba Jah from the University of Texas, who is at the conference.
    "I believe that we are certainly on a path to what I call a tragedy of the commons," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, adding that a major collision was "inevitable" without action to tackle the problem.
    "You´ve driven on the roads here when you have a lot of mist or fog, and you have to go really slow, and you just don´t know what´s really around you. That´s the perfect analogy to space right now," Jah said.
    Greene said scientists were developing technologies set to be operational in 18 months to track all debris so spacecraft could move around them.
    Another idea in the works was Earth-based high-powered lasers that could be fired into space to "push the debris around a little bit", with the programme 75 percent ready, he added.
    An experimental Japanese mission to clear space junk using an electrodynamic ´tether´ to slow down the orbiting rubbish and bring it into a lower orbit ended in failure in February.

    Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan recently began shooting for Aanand L. Rai's film in Mumbai's film city in which he plays a dwarf.
    During the shooting of the film, an unfortunate incident occurred on the set.
    According to Indian media, a large portion of the ceiling collapsed on the set, giving minor injuries to two members of the crew. 
    The members who fell under the rubble were immediately shifted to a hospital, where they were discharged later after getting the appropriate treatment.

    According to Indian media sources "A prop ladder fell on the makeshift ceiling. The injured crew members were discharged immediately since the injuries were minor. Everybody heaved a sigh of relief that SRK was seated on another side of the set and was unharmed. Shooting was stalled for two days and will resume later this week."

    Burned vehicles at the site of the blast in Kabul - Reuters  ISLAMABAD: Pakistan?s Foreign Office on Wednesday condemned the attack in Kabul?s diplomatic quarter and according to a press statement officials from the country?s embassy had been injured.

    Some Pakistani diplomats and staff sustained minor injuries in the attack and their residences were also damaged, according to the press release of Pakistan?s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
    ?Pakistan being a victim of terrorism understands the pain and agony that such incidents inflict upon the people and society. The people and Government of Pakistan extend their heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Afghanistan and the bereaved families,? the statement said.
    ?While reiterating condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, we pray for early recovery of the injured. We firmly stand with our Afghan brothers in this hour of grief and anguish,? it added.

    Bodies littered the scene and a towering plume of smoke rose from the area, which houses foreign embassies, after the blast blew out the windows in several missions and residences hundreds of metres away.



    Witnesses described dozens of cars choking the roads as wounded survivors and panicked schoolgirls sought safety, with men and women struggling to get through security checkpoints to search for loved ones.

    It was not immediately clear what the target was. But the attack underscores spiralling insecurity in Afghanistan, where a military beset by soaring casualties and desertions is struggling to beat back the insurgents. Over a third of the country is outside government control.

    Authorities warned the toll could yet rise. "They are still bringing bodies and wounded people to hospitals," senior health ministry spokesman Ismael Kawoosi told AFP.

    Indian, Japanese Embassies damaged 

    Manpreet Vohra, India´s envoy to Afghanistan, told the Times Now television channel the bomb went off around 100 metres from India´s embassy, one of several in the area.
    "We are all safe, all our staff, all our personnel are safe. However, the blast was very large and nearby buildings including our own building have considerable damage in terms of broken glass and shattered windows and blown doors etc," he said.
    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "We strongly condemn the terrorist blast in Kabul. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased & prayers with the injured."
    The explosion also shattered windows at the Japanese Embassy. "Two Japanese embassy staffers were mildly injured, suffering cuts," a foreign ministry official in Tokyo told AFP.
    France also reported damage to its own embassy and the German one.
    Pentagon chief Jim Mattis has warned of "another tough year" for both foreign troops and local forces in Afghanistan.
    Afghan troops are backed by US and NATO forces, and the Pentagon has reportedly asked the White House to send thousands more troops to the country to break the deadlock in the fight against the Taliban.
    US troops in Afghanistan number about 8,400 today, and there are another 5,000 from NATO allies. They mainly serve in an advisory capacity -- a far cry from the US presence of more than 100,000 six years ago.
    The blast was the latest in a long line of attacks in Kabul. The province surrounding the capital had the highest number of casualties in the first three months of 2017 due to multiple attacks in the city, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.

    Controversial Indian singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has been making rounds on the internet as his Twitter account was suspended twice due to his controversial remarks.
    Twitter has now issued a statement, justifying why it suspended singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya's account.
    Twitter India now has finally given out a statement explaining the issue.

    According to Twitter, the account was suspended for his use of offensive language.
    The statement by Twitter reads, "We want people to feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs but we draw the line when it comes to behaviour that crosses the line into abuse, including behaviour designed to consciously harass, intimidate, or silence another person's voice."
    The statement also read that the organisation has the power to temporary lock and/or to permanently suspend the account that violates the company's policies.
    "Those that violate our policies may find their account temporarily locked and/or be subject to permanent suspension. We encourage anyone who spots someone engaging in abusive behaviour to report the content in-app or file a report." the statement read.
    Adding, "We do not comment on individual accounts but what we can say is that our rules are clear and we enforce them." 

    Abhijeet Bhattacharya's Twitter handle got suspended for his offensive tweets against female users.

    Toshiba Corp said on Wednesday it would not be able to present its audited annual business results for the fiscal year ended March at its general shareholder's meeting on June 28.
    Toshiba has been unable to submit its results to regulators as it has been at odds with auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers Aarata since a surprise writedown at its now bankrupt Westinghouse nuclear unit.
    "At this point, completion of the auditing is expected to take some more time," the Japanese conglomerate said in a statement.
    But the Japanese company said it would continue to work with the independent auditor to file its securities report by the legally specified deadline of June 30.
    A failure to meet the end-June deadline without an extension would put the troubled Japanese conglomerate's bourse listing in further jeopardy.
    Toshiba has been on the Tokyo stock exchange's supervision list since mid-March as it has failed to clear up concerns about its internal controls after a 2015 accounting scandal.
    At the general shareholders meeting on June 28, it will talk about its earnings outlook, the status of the auditing process and third-party investment in its memory business, the company said.
    It will also seek shareholder approval of reappointment of incumbent directors, for the period until an extraordinary shareholders meeting to be held later, when the company is prepared to report audited results.

    It was not immediately clear what the target was. But the attack underscores spiralling insecurity in Afghanistan, where a military beset by soaring casualties and desertions is struggling to beat back the insurgents. Over a third of the country is outside government control.

    Authorities warned the toll could yet rise. "They are still bringing bodies and wounded people to hospitals," senior health ministry spokesman Ismael Kawoosi told AFP.
    The interior ministry was calling on Kabul residents to donate blood, saying hospitals were in "dire need".
    There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the attack came as the resurgent Taliban step up their annual "spring offensive".
    The Islamic State group has also claimed responsibility for several recent bombings in the Afghan capital, including a powerful blast targeting an armoured NATO convoy that killed at least eight people and wounded 28 on May 3.
    Najib Danish, an interior ministry spokesman, said initial findings showed it had been a truck bomb.

    Indian, Japanese embassies damaged

    Manpreet Vohra, India´s envoy to Afghanistan, told the Times Now television channel the bomb went off around 100 metres from India´s embassy, one of several in the area.
    "We are all safe, all our staff, all our personnel are safe. However, the blast was very large and nearby buildings including our own building have considerable damage in terms of broken glass and shattered windows and blown doors etc," he said.
    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "We strongly condemn the terrorist blast in Kabul. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased & prayers with the injured."
    The explosion also shattered windows at the Japanese Embassy. "Two Japanese embassy staffers were mildly injured, suffering cuts," a foreign ministry official in Tokyo told AFP.
    France also reported damage to its own embassy and the German one.
    Pentagon chief Jim Mattis has warned of "another tough year" for both foreign troops and local forces in Afghanistan.
    Afghan troops are backed by US and NATO forces, and the Pentagon has reportedly asked the White House to send thousands more troops to the country to break the deadlock in the fight against the Taliban.
    US troops in Afghanistan number about 8,400 today, and there are another 5,000 from NATO allies. They mainly serve in an advisory capacity -- a far cry from the US presence of more than 100,000 six years ago.
    The blast was the latest in a long line of attacks in Kabul. The province surrounding the capital had the highest number of casualties in the first three months of 2017 due to multiple attacks in the city, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.

    KABUL: A powerful car bomb exploded in the center of Afghanistan's capital on Wednesday, killing at least nine people and wounding more than 90, officials said.
    The blast sent clouds of black smoke into the sky above the presidential palace and foreign embassies.
    Basir Mujahid, a spokesman for Kabul police, said several people were killed and wounded in the blast near the fortified entrance to the German embassy.
    "It was a car bomb near the German embassy, but there are several other important compounds and offices near there too. It is hard to say what the exact target is," Mujahid said.
    The explosion shattered windows and blew doors off their hinges in houses hundreds of metres away.
    A public health spokesman said at least 67 wounded people had been taken to hospitals around Kabul.
    Witnesses said they saw crowds gathered around ambulances that carried the dead and wounded to hospitals, trying to identify bodies.
    There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. A spokesman for Taliban insurgents said he was gathering information.

    Violence around Afghanistan has been rising throughout the year, as the Taliban push to defeat the U.S.-backed government and reimpose Islamic law after their 2001 ouster in a Washington-backed invasion.
    Since most international troops withdrew at the end of 2014, the Taliban have gained ground and now control or contest about 40 percent of the country, according to U.S. estimates, though President Ashraf Ghani's government holds all provincial centers.
    U.S. President Donald Trump is due to decide soon on a recommendation to send 3,000 to 5,000 more troops to bolster the small NATO training force and U.S. counter-terrorism mission now totaling just over 10,000.
    The commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, General John Nicholson, told a congressional hearing earlier this year that he needed several thousand more troops to help Afghan forces break a "stalemate" with the Taliban.

    Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), among others, are attending the session. 

    The session was initially chaired by PTI?s Arif Alvi.
    The finance minister tried to deceive the people, claimed opposition members, adding that the fiscal deficit is more than that stated by the government.  
    Opposition not being given the right to give their opinion on television, claimed PTI?s Shireen Mazari. "This is why we have kept a session outside the Parliament,? said Mazari.
    Alvi started a debated on the ongoing power crises in the country. JI?s Sahibzada Tariqullah started the debate by pointing out that people in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing 14-hour load shedding every day.
    Continuing the discussion, PTI?s Shah Mehmood Qureshi remarked that 14 to 18 hour load shedding is taking place across the country.
    ?The government has failed. It is failing to provide people with electricity, gas and water.? Health and education are not even a priority of the government, he added. 
    Addressing the members, opposition leader from the PPP, Khursheed Shah, said ?250 million is the population of the country according to the census.? What will happen if the country?s population becomes 500 million in the next 15 years? he asked.
    ?We are told that planning is under way to solve the water crisis. Only Rs20 billion have been allocated for construction of the Bhasha Dam. If this continues then the dam will be built in 20 years,? he cautioned.
    People in Karachi are out on streets as they have no electricity, he remarked further.
    ?The rulers don?t care about the problems of the poor,? he lamented further.
    Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party?s Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai came outside the parliament and tried to reason with Khursheed Shah during the opposition leader?s address but Shah responded, ?I will talk to you after getting free from here.?
    The opposition members started chanting ?Go Nawaz Go? slogans during the presence of PML-N-allied Achakzai, who eventually went back. 
    Addressing the session, PTI's Asad Umer claimed Pakistan's exports have never been this low in its history.

    Several people were killed and wounded in the blast near the fortified entrance to the German embassy, said Basir Mujahid a spokesman for Kabul police.
    At least 67 wounded have been taken to Kabul hospitals following a powerful car bomb explosion in the Afghan capital on Wednesday, a spokesman for the ministry of public health said.
    "It was a car bomb near the German embassy, but there are several other important compounds and offices near there too. It is hard to say what the exact target is," Mujahid said.

    The explosion shattered windows and blew doors off their hinges in houses hundreds of meters (yards) away.
    There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. A spokesman for Taliban insurgents said he was gathering information.

    A murder suspect accused of killing two men during an anti-Muslim rant against two girls on board a train in Oregon appeared in court, shouting slogans and defending his act as "patriotism."
    Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, did not enter a plea during his brief arraignment on charges including two counts of aggravated murder, which carry the death penalty.
    "Get out if you don't like free speech" and "You call it terrorism, I call it patriotism. You hear me? Die," he shouted in the courtroom, flanked by two deputies.
    "Death to the enemies of America. Leave this country if you hate our freedom," he added.
    Christian is due back in court on June 7.
    Attending the hearing on Tuesday was Micah Fletcher, who was wounded as he tried to defend a black 16-year-old and her Muslim friend as they rode on a crowded train on Friday.
    Christian allegedly targeted the teens, one of whom wore a hijab, with racial and religious insults.
    Two other men who tried to intervene were fatally stabbed.
    Fletcher told the local NBC station on Tuesday that he was trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
    "I got stabbed in the neck on my way to work, randomly, by a stranger I don't know, for trying to just be a nice person," said the 21-year-old university student. "Like, I don't know what to do after that, you know.
    "I'm healing. That's what I'm doing. As much as I can, in whatever way I can."
    According to reports, Christian was a known white supremacist and had appeared at an "alt-right" rally in Oregon in April during which he had yelled racist slurs while giving a Nazi salute.
    He was also previously convicted for robbery, kidnapping and weapons-related charges, according to media reports.
    One of the teenage girls targeted by Christian said she was with a friend who was wearing a hijab when he approached them and began hurling abuse.
    "He told us to go back to Saudi Arabia, and he told us we shouldn't be here, to get out of his country," Destinee Mangum told KPTV.
    "He was just telling us that we basically weren't anything and that we should kill ourselves."
    President Donald Trump described the attack as "unacceptable" in a tweet on Monday.
