    File RAWALPINDI: Five innocent people, including four women, were martyred and four others including three girls were injured on Burhan Wani?s first death anniversary, when Indian border troops opened unprovoked fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rawalakot sector, while in retaliation Pakistan Army destroyed two Indian check posts and killed four troops, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
    The latest incident of cross-border firing came on the day when thousands of Kashmiris observed Burhan Wani?s first death anniversary.
    The ISPR said that Pakistan Army befittingly responded and killed four Indian troops and destroyed their two check posts.


    "Pakistan Army befittingly responded on July 9, causing substantial losses to men and material. Two Indian Army posts firing on innocent civilians have been destroyed, four Indian soldiers killed," said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations.


    "Indian troops committed ceasefire violation and martyred five innocent civilians and injured four others along LoC," said ISPR's statement.
    According to ISPR, the causalities occurred in Rawalakot sector, Satwal, Manwal, Tatrinote areas located along LoC.
    While, Pakistan on Sunday again summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Islamabad, JP Singh over continuous ceasefire violation at Line of Control by Indian troops.

    US President Donald Trump said Sunday he wanted to work "constructively" with Russia, including on cyber security, despite confronting Vladimir Putin over alleged meddling in last year's American elections.
    While ruling out easing sanctions so long as the two countries remain at odds over Syria and Ukraine, Trump said it was time for US-Russia relations to move forward, even though members of his own party said he should be mulling new punishments.
    Two days after his first face-to-face talks with his Russian counterpart, Trump said he confronted Putin when they met in Germany over evidence from the intelligence agencies that Moscow meddled in the US elections.
    "I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election," he said of Friday's meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg. "He vehemently denied it. I've already given my opinion..."
    But after saying that he had called out Putin over the election, Trump said they could work together on some areas, including on Syria, where he said a ceasefire which began on Sunday would "save lives."
    "Now it is time to move forward in working constructively with Russia!"
    In a series of early-morning tweets on his return from Europe, Trump said he and Putin had talked about the idea of setting up what he called "an impenetrable cyber security unit" to prevent hacking in future elections.
    'Dumb idea'

    But senior Republican senators, including former presidential candidate John McCain, poured scorn on the idea.
    Lindsey Graham, a member of the Senate's armed services committee, said on NBC that the cyber idea was "not the dumbest idea I've ever heard, but it's pretty close."
    Voice dripping with sarcasm, McCain told a CBS interviewer that he was "sure that Vladimir Putin could be of enormous assistance in that effort, since he's doing the hacking."
    The US and Russian sides have issued sharply conflicting accounts of Friday's meeting, with Putin saying on Saturday that Trump had been "satisfied" by his denials of any Russian interference in the polls.
    The US president has previously equivocated over whether Russia did try to tilt the outcome of last November's election contest against Hillary Clinton in his favour, amid an investigation into whether members of Trump's campaign team actively colluded with Moscow.
    So his public assessment that Russia did meddle has triggered calls to bring in more sanctions.
    "So far they have not paid a single price for that," McCain said.
    Moscow has warned that a program of existing sanctions, which were mainly imposed over Russia's annexation of Crimea in Ukraine, threatens their whole relationship.
    Asked on Sunday whether new sanctions were in the pipeline, US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told ABC television: "We have sanctions that are already on the table and we expect to enforce those sanctions."
    Mnuchin also insisted that Russia and the US could work together on cyber security.
    'Strategic alliance'

    "What we want to make sure is that we coordinate with Russia, that we're focused on cyber security together, that we make sure that they never interfere in any democratic elections," he said.
    "This is like any other strategic alliance, whether we're doing military exercises with our allies or anything else. This is about having capabilities to make sure we both fight cyber (crime) together, which I think is a very significant accomplishment for President Trump."
    Syria has been a particular source of friction between the two countries, as Russia is a close ally of President Bashar al-Assad.
    Moscow was furious when the Trump administration launched a cruise missile strike against Syrian forces in April, in retaliation for what Washington said was a chemical weapons attack by Assad's regime against civilians.
    While saying sanctions were not discussed at the meeting with Putin, Trump indicated that Moscow could not expect any relief "until the Ukrainian & Syrian problems are solved."
    But while the brokering of a Syria ceasefire by the two countries -- along with Jordan -- means that one area of friction could be eased, the differences over Ukraine remain stark.
    Speaking on a visit to Ukraine, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urged Russia to take action to ease the bloody separatist conflict in the country's east, which Kiev and the West believe is being fueled by Moscow.
    "It is necessary for Russia to take the first step to de-escalate the situation in eastern Ukraine," Tillerson said as he made his first visit as Washington's top diplomat to Kiev.
    Meanwhile, investigators on Sunday were probing possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia according to The New York Times.
    The daily reported that son Donald Trump Jr., son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort met in New York in June 2016 with a Russian lawyer with Kremlin connections, the earliest such contact yet reported.
    The younger Trump said in a statement that the meeting was to discuss the adoption of Russian children by American couples under a program Putin had suspended. Trump said he had been asked to attend, "and there was no follow-up."

    Five people have been stricken with the rare, rodent-borne hantavirus illness in Washington state since February, three of whom have died, in the state's worst outbreak of the disease in at least 18 years, public health officials reported on Thursday.
    The three fatal cases also mark the highest death toll from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome in Washington state during a single year since the respiratory ailment was first identified in the "Four Corners" region of the US Southwest in 1993.
    The disease has been found to be transmitted to humans from deer mice, either through contact with urine, droppings, saliva or nesting materials of infected rodents or by inhaling dust contaminated with the virus.
    Victims in the latest outbreak were men and women ranging in age from their 20s to their 50s from four counties across the state, said David Johnson, spokesman for the Washington State Department of Health.
    The first diagnosed case this year was in February and the most recent was last month, when the infection killed a resident of Spokane County in the eastern part of the state near Washington's border with Idaho. Three of the five cases, including another one that proved fatal, were confirmed in the Puget Sound region of King and Skagit counties.
    The only common factor among those infected by the disease, which typically kills more than a third of its victims, is that they were all exposed to infected mice, Johnson said.
    The last time five confirmed hantavirus cases were diagnosed in Washington state in a single year was in 1999, although just one of those proved fatal, Johnson said.
    Washington has reported 49 of the 690 hantavirus cases tallied nationwide from 1993 to January 2016, ranking fifth among 10 Western states that account for the bulk of all documented infections, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.
    Eighteen infections with four deaths were reported nationally in 2015. The year before, the CDC counted 35 cases, of which 14 were fatal.
    The most highly publicised hantavirus outbreak occurred in 2012, when 10 visitors to Yosemite National Park in California were diagnosed with the infection, three of whom died, prompting a worldwide alert. All but one of those were linked to tent cabins later found to have been infested by deer mice.

    LONDON: The cladding system used on London's Grenfell Tower would only have met British regulatory standards if the two main materials had passed a key safety test together, according to a Reuters analysis of the building code and data on the materials.
    Three weeks after the June 14 fire, neither the two companies involved in the cladding on the Grenfell Tower nor the local authority which enforces the building codes have addressed questions from Reuters about whether that test was ever conducted and its outcome.
    The test is required to show whether both materials when used together were sufficiently resistant to combustion. Without proof that it had been carried out, the cladding system would not have met building regulations.
    The cladding work carried about by Rydon Group Ltd, the main contractor on the 2014-2016 refurbishment of the building, and its subcontractor Harley Facades involved attaching insulation boards to the tower's concrete facade and covering them with aluminium composite panels.
    France's Saint Gobain said the insulation used was its brand of polyisocyanurate (PIR) called Celotex RS5000.
    The aluminium panels, which had a polyethylene plastic core were called Reynobond PE, and made by New York-based ArconicInc, previously known as Alcoa Inc.
    If all the elements of the insulation system had achieved a separate and demanding government standard called "limited combustibility", in separate tests, then a combined test would not have been necessary, according to the building regulations.
    But Reynobond PE and Celotex did not meet the combustibility test by themselves, according to safety experts and product specifications published by the manufacturers.
    This meant that the two materials combined would need to pass another test known as the BS 8414 test, according to the building regulations. This involves setting a fire under a three-storey mock-up of the proposed wall construction.
    Both standards, set out in the guidelines to the building code, aim to prevent a fire spreading quickly from inside and up the exterior walls, something that happened at Grenfell Tower.
    In a June 29 email, a spokeswoman for Rydon Group Ltd says it ?met all building regulations? but did not say if the BS 8414test stipulated in the building codes had been conducted.
    The building control department of the local Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea council (RBKC), which is responsible for checking that the building and plans are consistent with regulations, declined to say if it had checked the tests had been carried out.
    Police think the cladding system at Grenfell Tower may have contributed to the rapid spread of last month's fatal fire. They have said they are investigating possible criminal behaviour and the role of all the companies involved in the building.
    The Department for Communities and Local Government, the government department which is responsible for setting the regulations enforced by building control, has said the cladding system used at Grenfell did not comply with the building rules it oversees. It has not said why and declined to answer detailed questions on its legal reasoning.
    COMBUSTIBILITY
    The test used to assess combined materials must be commissioned from a government approved independent testing agency. Reuters was unable to determine which, if any lab was used.
    Rydon, which had a turnover of 249 million pounds last year, told Reuters the materials it used were suitable for use in tall buildings. ?Laboratory testing of the fire resistance of the cladding system used at Grenfell Tower was carried out prior to installation. Please see attached BBA certificate,? the spokeswoman said in the June 29 email.
    The certificate Rydon provided showed the panels met a separate standard on the surface spread of fire.
    Asked specifically about the BS 8414 test, the Rydon spokeswoman said: ?More technical questions would be better directed at Harley as it?s their area of expertise.?
    Executives and a spokesman at Harley, a small company with few assets, declined to comment for this story. It said in a statement on its website last month it was not aware of any link between the fire and the exterior cladding to the tower.
    An official at RBKC, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, declined to provide details of the specification it approved or what checks it conducted to ensure the actual construction met the approved plan, citing the ongoing police investigation into the fire.
    A spokeswoman for Saint Gobain said its BR 135combustibility certification of Celotex was based on tests conducted with a non-combustible cement façade panel. She declined to say if Celotex had ever passed the BS 8414 test with a flammable façade panel such as Reynobond PE.

    Evin Lewis blazed his second hundred against India to lead the West Indies to a rampaging nine-wicket victory in the one-off T20 international at Sabina Park on Sunday.
    Replying to the tourists' challenging total of 190 for six, Lewis stole the spotlight from returning local hero Chris Gayle with a blistering unbeaten 125 in taking the home side to 194 for one with nine balls to spare.
    It was the first T20 international hundred scored by a West Indian in the Caribbean, and puts the left-handed opener alongside Gayle and New Zealand's Brendon McCullum as the only players to have scored more than one century in the international format of the game.
    Lewis' innings was highlighted by 12 towering sixes and six fours off only 62 deliveries.
    This memorable knock came 11 months after he compiled an even 100 against the same opponents in Fort Lauderdale, where the West Indies sneaked a one-run win a high-scoring encounter.
    He completely dominated an 82-run opening stand with Gayle, who fell to debutant Kuldeep Yadav for 18 in the ninth over.
    Marlon Samuels then supported Lewis' explosive innings with an assured unbeaten 36 off 29 deliveries as their unbroken second-wicket stand of 112 saw the West Indies home in the 19th over.
    Lewis fittingly ended the contest with another swing for six off spinner Ravindra Jadeja to achieve the highest individual score in a T20 international chase.
    "It was at the back of my mind that I didn't get a score in the one-dayers but I just believe in backing myself and playing my style of game," said a delighted Lewis after receiving the man-of-the-match award.
    "This is a very good bowling team so any runs you get against them is really appreciated."
    As well as the 25-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago played though, India did not help their cause by twice dropping him in the deep as he approached the half-century mark, Mohammad Shami and Dinesh Karthik the culprits in the field.
    Mahendra Singh Dhoni also missed a stumping chance when Gayle was on one while Samuels benefited from a couple of narrow escapes in what was an untidy effort by India in the field.
    Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli (39 off 22 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (23 off 12) led the charge after they were sent in to bat by Carlos Brathwaite, the pair putting on 64 for the first wicket until both fell in the sixth over of the innings to Kesrick Williams.
    In just his second T20 international, Rishabh Pant struggled to get going but it was the experienced Karthik who dominated an 86-run third-wicket stand before he fell for 48, bowled behind his legs by Samuels.
    His innings occupied just 29 deliveries and included three sixes and five fours.
    Despite his dismissal at 151 for three in the 16th over, India still looked on course for a total in excess of 200.
    However Jerome Taylor removed both Dhoni and Pant (38 off 35 balls) off successive deliveries, while Williams claimed his second wicket when he accounted for Kedar Jadhav via a fine diving catch by Sunil Narine coming off the backward-point boundary.
    "We fell about 30 runs short with the bat and if you don't grab your chances in the field you don't deserve to win," said an obviously disappointed Kohli.
    "Someone at the top of the order should have gotten at least 80-90 to take us up to 220-plus. But all these games are good indicators as to how some our guys respond to pressure situations."
    Despite being outplayed 3-1 in the preceding one-day international series, there is a sense of anticipation for the return of Gayle, the big-hitting opening batsman whose last appearance for the regional side was at the World T20 final against England in Kolkata 15 months ago.
    India were forced to make a late change to their 11 as all-rounder Hardik Pandya picked up an injury in the morning warm-ups with Jadeja taking his place.

    "Spider-Man: Homecoming," Sony's newest addition to the growing library of summertime superhero yarns, spun up an impressive opening in North American theaters this weekend, with ticket sales for the three-day weekend estimated at $117 million.
    That would give the film the third-largest opening so far this year, behind "Beauty and the Beast" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Sony, along with Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, spent a hefty $175 million to make the film, but global sales have already surpassed $250 million, according to website boxofficemojo.com.
    This family-friendly version of "Spider-Man" -- with a 93 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website -- stars Tom Holland as a young Peter Parker, ably mentored by Robert Downy Jr. as Iron Man as he takes on bad guy Vulture (Michael Keaton). Director Jon Watts had previously helmed lower-budget cop and horror films.
    Last week's No. 1 film, "Despicable Me 3," came in second at a respectable $34 million, website Exhibitor Relations reported. In Universal's latest installment in the animated series, Steve Carell stars as the voice of bad guy-turned-protagonist Gru -- and his twin brother Dru. Kristen Wiig voices Gru's wife Lucy and "South Park" co-creator Trey Parker is evil villain Balthazar Bratt.
    In third spot was Sony's heist thriller "Baby Driver," with Ansel Elgort ("The Fault in our Stars") starring as a gifted getaway driver who suffers from tinnitus -- ringing in his ears -- forcing him to play music on his iPod to concentrate when behind the wheel. It took in $12.7 million in its third week.
    Fourth was "Wonder Woman," at $10.1 million. The Warner Bros. superhero action film stars Israeli actress Gal Gadot as the Amazonian goddess-princess.
    And in fifth place was "Transformers: The Last Knight" from Paramount, with ticket sales of $6.3 million. The latest episode in that blockbuster series, heavy on visual effects, features actors Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro and Anthony Hopkins.
    Rounding out the top 10 were:

    LONDON: England beat South Africa by 211 runs to win the first Test at Lord´s on Sunday.

    South Africa, set 331 to win, collapsed to 119 all out with more than a day to spare as England went 1-0 up in this four-match series and gave Joe Root a victory in his first Test as England captain.
    Off-spinner Moeen Ali did the bulk of the damage with a Test-best return of six for 53 in a match where he took 10 wickets in total.
    Root himself rescued England from a top-order collapse to make 190 in a first-innings total of 458. South Africa could only manage 361 in reply as Ali took four for 59 on his way to completing the Test double of 2,000 runs and 100 wickets.
    England lost seven wickets in Sunday´s morning session after starting the fourth day on 119 for one.
    But Jonny Bairstow´s 51 helped take England to 233 in their second innings that left the Proteas with a stiff chase and one that proved well beyond them.
    The series continues at Nottingham´s Trent Bridge ground on Friday.

    ISLAMABAD: Responding to political adversaries of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, Maryam Nawaz Sunday said that in a political battle, no one could fight better than the PML-N.

    On her twitter account, she tweeted while addressing PML-N political opponents, ?If you have turned it into a political battle, no one can fight it better than PML-N.? She further said ?All daughters must be brave.?
    Earlier, Maryam Nawaz Sharif hit back at critics who slammed a female security official for ?breaking protocol? by saluting her on her way to the Federal Judicial Academy earlier this week.
    In a Twitter post on Friday, Maryam posted a picture of herself saluting a female security official with the caption: ?We salute the daughters, not the ranks! If they respect you, respect them back ! All salutes are not protocol. Respect comes from the heart.?

    KARACHI: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday denied reports suggesting that he has secretly married a Member National Assembly, informed his spokesperson.

    The spokesperson called the rumours, ?baseless?, adding that another rumour surrounding on media saying that he has agreed to become a witness against Sharif family is also completely untrue.
    Dar has also rejected that his family has applied for US citizenship.


    The statements were in a reaction to a claim made by a journalist in his recent TV programme, saying that the finance minister has secretly married a fellow lawmaker which caused great annoyance to the members of Sharif family.

    ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has cancelled his visit to Kohistan (Dasu), which was earlier scheduled for Monday due to bad weather, according to a statement by the PM office on Sunday.
    The statement further said that the new dates for the premier?s visit would be announced later.
    Tomorrow is also an important day as the Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT), tasked to probe the prime minister?s financial dealings abroad, will submit its final report to the Supreme Court?s special implementation bench.
    The local administration in Islamabad finalised all arrangements pertaining to Monday's hearing at the apex court. Authorities have issued a red alert for the federal capital's Red Zone area.
    On July 7, PM Nawaz Sharif had inaugurated the first 760MW-unit of the Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant in Jhang. He had then announced that he would lay down the foundation-stone of the Dasu power project on July 10.

    Speaking to media here, the PTI chief expressed his apprehensions that he sees the situation leading to an attack on the apex court, like the one in 1997.
    He labelled yesterday's presser by federal ministers as an "attack on the investigation team", noting that the PML-N has stated that it won't accept the JIT report without statement by the Qatari prince.
    "When the Qatari prince was everything [for them], so wasn't it their responsibility to bring him to record statement," Khan questioned, adding the entire case of Sharif family depended upon Prince Hamad bin Jasim.

    The prime minister said that he presented before the Joint Investigation Team for the supremacy of the law
    Now they know that the report has reached a point indicating Nawaz Sharif's ineligibility, so now they say they will not accept the SC verdict, he said.
    "While appearing before the JIT, they waived hands as if they were going to conquer Kashmir, but they were upset on return," the PTI chairman said. "They should also go to prison for considering the entire nation fool."
    He said that Nawaz Sharif had brought the judiciary under control after Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.
    "Yesterday's press conference shows that Sharif family has lost the case," Khan said, urging the apex court to ordering placement of PM's name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
    Commenting on his party's funding, he said, "We admit we collected funds from overseas Pakistanis. If we have evaded taxes, then people should raise the issue in Britain".

    Manchester United's former England soccer captain Wayne Rooney has rejoined boyhood favorites Everton from their Premier League rivals, the Merseyside club said on Sunday.

    "Everton can confirm that Wayne Rooney has rejoined the club from Manchester United on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee," said a statement on Everton's website (www.evertonfc.com).
    Rooney has expressed his excitement on joining his former club.
    Rooney has rejoined Everton 13 years after leaving the Merseyside club. He has appeared 559 times for Manchester United, scoring 253 goals; he won five Premier League titles and each of the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup once after joining from the Toffees for £27m in 2004.

    LAHORE: Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs said on Sunday that the exhibition matches are giving a message to the world that Pakistan is a safe country.

    Speaking at a press conference ahead of the much-anticipated second leg of the seven-a-side series at Fortress Stadium, Giggs said: ?We are happy to be here, we are enjoying it and hopefully we will be able to send a message to the world that Pakistan is a good and safe place to visit.?
    He further added that the players are very happy to receive the hospitality of Pakistani people.
    Giggs also said that in view of making good progress authorities managing football in Pakistan should give infrastructure and best coaches to the local players.
    Responding over a question, the former Welsh footballer said that he came across talented Pakistani players who are eager to improve their game in the exhibition match played at Abdul Sattar Edhi Stadium in Karachi.
    ?Hopefully we will some more of it today,? he said. ?There is a lot of individual talent but obviously it needs infrastructure. I have seen that the youth of Pakistan are big fans of football.?
    Giggs further said that Pakistani people love football as much as they love cricket, hopefully, now the country will also be known for its football.
    Meanwhile, owing to a slight injury in Saturday's game, Giggs may not be playing tonight's match, sources have informed Geo News.
    Seven top footballers from around the world, including Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and Manchester United great Ryan Giggs, arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for two exhibition matches in Karachi and Lahore.
    Brazilian hero Ronaldinho, former Manchester United stalwart Giggs, former England goalkeeper David James, Dutch star George Boateng, former French players Robert Pires and Nicolas Anelka and Portuguese player Luis Boa Morte are playing with a group of Pakistani footballers for two seven-a-side matches.
    Strict security arrangements have been put in place at the site of the venue, as well as the hotel where the international players will be lodged.

    File photo LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leaders and federal ministers put their weight behind the prime minister on Sunday ? a day before the final Joint Investigation Team?s report will be submitted to the Supreme Court in relation to the Panama Leaks case.

    Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique was speaking to a gathering in Lahore, where he said that he knows who is playing against the ruling party.
    The federal minister said that the party would give justification in the court of the public, where the rivals would be given a bashing as well.

LONDON: Irish rock group U2 kicked off the European leg of "The Joshua Tree" tour on Saturday by returning to the album that tackled their love-hate relationship with America and propelled them to superstardom when it was released 30 years ago.
    The band, led by 57-year-old singer Bono, is playing the entire record to 2.4 million fans on their 2017 tour, including hits "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven´t Found What I´m looking For".
    But they started the London show with early songs "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year´s Day", "Bad", and the Martin Luther King Jr-inspired "Pride (In the Name of Love)", which Bono dedicated to the "Rainbow people of London" who took part in the annual Pride LGBT march in the city earlier on Saturday.
    "The Joshua Tree" was played in sequence against a backdrop of video of US landscapes such as Death Valley, and Americans standing in front of the Stars and the Stripes, shot by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn who created the imagery on the original record.
    The group´s best-selling album was released in 1987 when Ronald Reagan was US President and his ideological soul mate Margaret Thatcher was in power in Britain.
    The tracks "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "Mothers of the Disappeared" were inspired by trips Bono made to Nicaragua and El Salvador, where he saw the impact of US foreign policy, while "Red Hill Mining Town" was about the impact of the socially divisive miners´ strike in Britain in the 1980s.
    Lead guitarist The Edge said in an interview with Rolling Stone in January that politically "things have kind of come full circle".
    "It just felt like, ´Wow, these songs have a new meaning and a new resonance today that they didn´t have three years ago, four years ago´," he told the magazine.
    Bono largely let the music speak for itself on Saturday, although a character called "Trump" was called a liar by the "good guy cowboy" in a Western movie-style clip.
    "The Joshua Tree", which sold more than 25 million copies, marked the pinnacle of the band tackling social and political issues through rock music. Their next album, "Rattle and Hum", did not match its success critically or commercially, and the band reinvented themselves in the 1990s by incorporating electronic and alternative rock into their sound.
    Seven of their later songs, including "Ultraviolet" and "One", were played as an encore, before Bono invited support act Noel Gallagher back on stage to sing "Don´t Look Back in Anger", a song he wrote for his band Oasis.
    The track became an anthem for Manchester after 22 people were killed by a suicide bomber in the city in May, and Gallagher also dedicated it to the victims of further attacks and a devastating tower block fire in London in June.
    U2, Gallagher and thousands of fans united in singing the anthem, ending a show that proved the enduring relevance and appeal of 1980s and 1990s rock music.
    "The Joshua Tree" tour plays seven other European cities before returning to the United States in September.

    Swathes of Kyushu -- the southernmost of Japan´s four main islands -- have been left devastated after overflowing rivers and torrential downpours swept away roads, houses and schools this week.
    Thousands of people have been evacuated to makeshift shelters in school gyms and public buildings, but many remain stranded, with emergency services battling through thick mud and rain to try to reach them.
    More than 500 people were still cut off by Sunday, public broadcaster NHK reported, with collapsed bridges and waterlogged ground on steep hillsides hampering rescue efforts.
    The government was doing its "utmost" to recover those missing or stranded, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said in a rare weekend press conference.
    Officials of Fukuoka and Oita prefectures said a total 18 people had been confirmed dead while 27 were missing or could not be reached.
    Five people were in critical condition, Suga said, with the government still trying to ascertain if their injuries were a result of the severe weather.
    Television footage showed rescue helicopters held up at a makeshift heliport -- unable to fly because of the downpours, while people prayed for the safety of their family members.
    More than 50 centimetres (20 inches) of rain deluged parts of Kyushu in 12 hours on Wednesday, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to warn of possible significant damage.
    Rains have continued intermittently since, with up to 22 centimetres recorded in Fukuoka in the past 72-hour period.
    Japan´s weather agency on Sunday warned of continued heavy rains and mudslides in northern Kyushu.

Photo: Reuters  HAMBURG: Arab refugees watching anti-G20 riots in Hamburg from the relative safety of a falafel joint said on Saturday the rioters were insane for destroying their tolerant adoptive city and were astonished by what they saw as the police's restraint.
    "If people did this in Egypt they would be shot," said Ibrahim Ali, a 29-year-old Egyptian who came here in 2011. "The state provides everything: housing, unemployment benefits and education. Yet those people are not happy. I don't get it."
    Ali and two more refugees from Syria and Egypt were serving beer, falafel, hummus, tabouleh salad and other Middle Eastern delights to protesters who had started leaving the Sternschanze quarter as police special units moved in against the rioters.
    "They are crazy. I can't believe my eyes," said Mohammad Halabi, 32, a Syrian who arrived in Germany as a refugee some 18 months ago. "They have such a beautiful country and they're destroying it."
    Halabi, who speaks broken German, said he had been following the G20 only to see if world leaders would come up with a solution to end the civil war in Syria.
    His expectations were low, he said, so he was not disappointed when he read on social media on Friday that US President Donald Trump and Russia President Vladimir Putin had agreed on a ceasefire for southwestern Syria.
    "It's a joke. They are not serious," said Halabi. "They are simply interested in preserving their own interests in Syria and the Middle East."
    'Not scared'
    When he was not serving falafel, Halabi ran toward the square where rioters had set barricades on fire, and took pictures of police firing water cannon.

    "This is nothing. I'm not scared," he said, sharing pictures with family members living in Turkey. "Bombs falling on your neighbourhood, that's scary."
    Hours after police wrestled back control of Sternschanze, a traditional venue for leftist protests, residents and shopkeepers came out to inspect the extent of the damage.
    Some helped municipal workers who had been cleaning the streets since dusk, removing glass, concrete slabs and stones that had been hurled at police.
    All said they were angry at Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to hold the summit in their port city as they had feared that militant members of the Black Bloc anarchist group would resort to violence.
    "It's scary what happened here," said teacher Sandra Janowitz, 28. "But I don't blame the demonstrators. Most were teenagers who don't know what they're doing. And many were foreigners. They went home and we have to deal with this mess."
    Merkel on Saturday defended her decision to hold the summit in the city of her birth, praised the police's security operation and said that residents would receive compensation.
    Unlike native Hamburg residents, Halabi said he cannot be angry at Merkel.
    "Without her I wouldn't be here," he said, referring to the chancellor's decision to welcome refugees.

    In his message on the 50th death anniversary of Mother of the Nation Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, he said the way Fatima Jinnah stood beside her brother, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, during the entire freedom movement is a great example of perseverance and steadfastness.
    The premier said from Fatima Jinnah's struggle, we draw lessons of sacrifice and unconditional support for a noble cause.
    Sharif said we should recommit ourselves to achieving a Pakistan envisioned by our founding father.
    Fatima Jinnah passed away on July 9, 1967 and is buried beside her brother in his mausoleum in Karachi.

    Having a pet dog or cat more than doubles the odds that humans will find a tick on themselves, and that could raise the risk of contracting tick-borne diseases like Lyme, researchers say.
    ?Ticks can transmit disease to people and their pets, particularly in the warmer months when they are most active,? said lead study author Erin Jones of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in Baltimore.
    Jones? team analysed data collected by a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initiative called TickNET, which aims to prevent tick-borne diseases across the country. Lyme disease is the most common such disease in the US; the risk of exposure is highest in northeastern states, the researchers write in Zoonoses and Public Health.
    ?Preventing tick bites by avoiding wooded and brushy areas with high grass and leaf litter, appropriately using repellents on skin and clothing, and checking for ticks after going outside are effective prevention methods,? Jones said in an email.
    The researchers surveyed 2,727 households in three states where Lyme disease is endemic: Connecticut, Maryland and New York. More than half of the households, 1,526, had a dog, a cat or both. About 88 percent of these households reported using some form of tick control on their pets.
    Overall, about 31 percent of pet owners had found a tick crawling on a human in the household and 19 percent of pet owners had found a tick attached to a human household member. By comparison, about 20 percent of non-pet owning households found a tick crawling on a human and 14 percent found a tick attached to a human.
    About 20 percent of pet-owning households had found ticks on their pets. Finding a tick on a pet doubled the likelihood of finding ticks crawling on or attached to household members.
    Owners still found ticks on their pets when they used tick control medication, the study authors note.
    But the researchers found no significant difference in tick-borne diseases reported by pet owners and non-owners - in each group, about 20 percent had had a verified tick-borne illness.
    Certain property characteristics, such as having a vegetable garden, compost pile, log pile, bird feeder, stone walls and children?s play equipment, were associated with higher odds of finding ticks crawling on, or attached to, human household members.
    ?Lyme disease is getting more attention because the number of human cases has increased, and tick habitats are changing as an indirect consequence of climate change,? said Dr Bruno Chomel, a veterinary researcher at the University of California, Davis who wasn?t involved in the study.
    ?It makes sense that people who have pets, especially dogs, are more likely to be around fields or areas where ticks could be hanging out,? he told Reuters Health by phone. ?Pets can bring these parasites into the human environment, especially if they sit on couches or sleep in beds with owners.?
    One limitation of the study is that tick control use was self-reported, so the research team wasn?t sure whether the owners applied the medication accurately and consistently or what brand was used. In addition, the study group may have been too small to detect an increased risk of tick-borne diseases when a household included pets, the authors write.
    ?Pet owners are encouraged to check their pets for ticks daily, especially after they spend time outdoors,? Jones told Reuters Health. ?Enjoy the outdoors, but prevent tick bites on yourselves and your pets.?

    The JIT, formed on May 5 in light of the Supreme Court?s April 20 judgment, was tasked to ascertain the money trail of the Sharif family-owned properties in Park Lane, London.
    In a last-ditch effort to press the Sharif family?s case, top federal ministers held a press conference Saturday night saying the JIT report would be unacceptable if the statement of Qatari Prince Sheikh Hammad bin Jassim.
    The press conference was addressed by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Saad Rafique, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
    In response, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said the Qatari prince is the Sharif family?s witness, which puts the onus of his responding to the JIT on the Sharif family.
    The Qatar royal family member has asked the JIT to record his statement in his palace in Doha which the JIT has reportedly refused to do.

    Seven top footballers from around the world, including Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and Manchester United great Ryan Giggs, arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for two exhibition matches in Karachi and Lahore.
    Brazilian hero Ronaldinho, former Manchester United stalwart Giggs, former England goalkeeper David James, Dutch star George Boateng, former French players Robert Pires and Nicolas Anelka and Portuguese player Luis Boa Morte are playing with a group of Pakistani footballers for two seven-a-side matches.
