Lahore is in for a unique treat this month. A hundred makers from across the country are bringing their wares, ideas and solutions to Faletti?s Hotel on July 27 and 28 for the inaugural Maker Fest Pakistan.

The two-day event will feature exhibitions, panel discussions, film screenings and workshops.

Maker Fest Pakistan is the local edition of the Maker Faire, launched in the United States in 2006, which brings together tech enthusiasts, artists, crafters, authors and commercial exhibitors. It has since generated keen interest in Europe as well.

Pakistan?s version of this festival is themed after the Indus Valley Civilization. The event will be showcasing work by Kalsoom Hameed from Balochistan, who has re-invented a unique music instrument named Surna, Sheraz Javaid?s EMG controlled bionic arm that harnesses muscle signals to replicate the movements that can be used as a prosthetic limb, humanoid robot and a robotic suit.

The guest speakers include Dr. Mubarak Ali, Dr. Umar Saif, Nighat Chaudhry and Kamil Khan Mumtaz. Maestro Ustad Raees Ali Khan and sitar virtuoso Rakae Jamil will also be performing at the festival.
