KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah said on Saturday said that the opposition has formed one-sided opinion on the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 Repeal Bill 2017.

The CM Sindh gave a statement, saying that the approval and implementation of the bill is a constitutional right.

He said that currently 12 ministers and officials are facing investigation from the NAB, asking if any other region is facing the same amount of actions by the institution.

On July 21, Murad Ali Shah had called all opposition parties to mull over the bill that asked to revoke NAO 1999 Repeal Bill 2017.

The bill was passed by the Sindh Assembly amid opposition protests on July 3.

However, on July 14 Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair refused to sign the bill, sending it back to the Sindh Assembly to reconsider and discard since it is "repugnant to the provisions" of the NAO Ordinance, 1999 and the Constitution.

Countering criticism by the opposition, Shah had pointed out that repealing the ordinance in question fell well within the jurisdiction of the provincial government and said a Sindh Accountability Commission would be formed to investigate allegations of corruption.

The NAO Ordinance 1999 Repeal Bill 2017 aims to repeal the applicability of the NAO in departments and autonomous bodies controlled by Sindh government.
