ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday called a National Assembly session on August 1, 2017, to select the new Prime Minister, following the Supreme Court of Pakistan?s ruling on the Panama Papers case for Nawaz Sharif to step down from the post.

Sharif was disqualified under Article 62 (1) (f) of the constitution over his failure to disclose un-withdrawn receivables constituting assets from a UAE-based company. It implied he was not ?honest? and ?truthful?, as per the country?s Constitution.

In the verdict, all five judges ruled to send references against Nawaz Sharif, his children Maryam, Hussain and Hasan, son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar, and ex-Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to an accountability court.

The court also ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference against the accused in an accountability court in six weeks and directed for the trial to be wrapped up within six months.

A summary of the forthcoming session has already been sent out to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
