The High Court in London blocked a bid by a former Iraqi chief of staff trying to bring a private prosecution case over the Iraq War against Tony Blair on Monday.

The former chief of staff, General Abdul Wahed Shannan accused Tony Blair of having committed a "crime of aggression" in 2003 by invading Iraq.

The application was dismissed by Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, the Lord Chief Justice, and Mr Justice Ouseley ruling that the case had "no prospect" of succeeding.

General Shannan also wanted to prosecute Jack Straw, who served as the Foreign Secretary at the time, and Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General at the time.
