SRINAGAR: Indian troops martyred five Kashmiri youth in Kupwara district on Tuesday, the Kashmir Media Service (KMS) said.

Indian troops killed the youth during a violent military operation in Macchil area of the district.

The bullet-riddled body of one Ishtiaq Ahmad Wagay was recovered from Aalam Gunj area of Shopian. Gunshots were heard on Sunday night and residents later found a man lying in a pool of blood in the village, the KMS reported.

As a mark of protest against the Indian police, journalists from print as well as electronic media staged a sit-in outside the office of the SSP Handwara carrying placards with the slogan, ?Stop harassing media.? Journalists were protesting against the thrashing of a reporter, Javed Zargar, by Indian police.

Javed Zargar was stopped by Indian police at Watergam and manhandled after he told the police that he was a journalist.
