I'll say this once: I scare easily. Like, Paranormal Activity easily. Like Zee Horror (remember that show?) easily. Just the starting track before each episode began would scare the bejesus out of me; not even joking about this one. But, I'm also one curious bloody cat who just can't sit still without knowing what the hell is about to happen to that dumb blonde chick who went out right into the arms of Freddie Kruger and, well, right into his iron claws… Damnit!
I even played Bloody Mary once when I was alone in the house… I mean I know that doesn't count because it's so juvenile the word ‘juvenile' sounds more grown up. And believe it or not; nothing happened. Yet, I shivered and shook for a whole week after.
Imagine having to have played any one of the following games, then! I would have died half way through the steps, let alone getting through at all!1. Elevator To Another Dimension
No. Of Players: 1
What You Need: A building with at least 10 floors; an elevator; zero interruption
You enter the lift and press these buttons in the exact order mentioned—4, 2, 6, 2, 10, 5. Don't get off at any of the floors, though. Now, if you do it right, when you reach the fifth floor, a woman is supposed to enter the lift with you. She will ask you where are you going; to which you have NOT to respond, whatsoever. Stay silent and ignore her. Then, without having pressed any other button, the lift will automatically rise to the 10th floor. This time, you get off. It is said that when you get off, you're in a whole new dimension, automatically. When you're done, and want to return, get back to the lift and press the same buttons in the exact same order.
Warning: Do not talk to the woman, no matter what. It is believed that those who did have never returned.2. Three Kings Ritual
No. of Players: 1
What You Need: An exceptionally, large room—a huge basement, maybe—with no natural light whatsoever, one candle, two mirrors, three chairs and an object from your childhood.
You place all of the above mentioned items in this large room, switch off all the lights and ensure that no natural light comes in from anywhere at all. Then, as you exit the room, leave the door open. Go to your own room and go to sleep. At exactly 3:30 am, wake up and go back into the room where you've left the items. You sit down on one of the chairs with the candle lit in your hand and wait till it's 3:33am. Now, keep your eyes locked on the darkest part of the room, nowhere else. If done right, at exactly 3:33am, you will feel a presence with you in the room. It is said that the presence will talk to you about your past. Some people even reported lucid dreaming.
Warning: Do not leave any windows open, or any inlet for natural light. While doing the ritual, do not—during any moment of the game—let the candle go out. Do not look into the mirror you left there, either; no matter what you do.3. Ouija Board
No. of Players: No limit, starting from 1
What You Need: An Ouija board, a planchette and some candles
You sit down in a dark room with no disturbance and start the ritual. An Ouija board is one of the oldest known mediums to contact the spirit world. The board has the English alphabet, numerics 0 to 9 and the words ‘Yes' and ‘No' etched on to it. With the help of a planchette, you summon a spirit by placing it on the board. Once the spirit has made contact you ask them questions that pertain to single answers, varying from ‘Yes' or ‘No' and with the help of the alphabet and numbers, they can answer questions you may have for them.
Warning: Never ask the spirit for any kind of proof of being real. When you do that, it is said that you are indirectly, giving it permission to enter into your world. Do not blow out the candles during the ritual, or leave the board midway.4. Hitori Kakurenbo
No. Of Players: 1
What You Need: A stuffed doll, rice, something that is part of you (like, a fingernail or a strand of hair), some red thread, a tub of water, salt water, some source of fire.
The game, finds its roots in ancient Japan and is called one-man hide and seek, in English. The game is about playing hide-and-seek with a spirit-possessed doll. You get yourself a stuffed doll and take out the stuffing from inside and fill it with rice, instead. Add a strand of your hair, or your finger nail to the rise and then, with the red thread, sew up the doll and wrap it up entirely in red thread. Give your doll a name and then, place it in the tub filled with water. Now, turn off all the lights in your house and fill your mouth with salt water. Go and look for the doll where you left it last—in the tub of water. Don't freak out if you don't find it in the tub. That's the point of the game, remember? You need to continue looking for the doll, though till you find it. When you do, pour the salt water from your mouth on it and then, burn the doll. Now, you hide and wait. You will soon feel a presence in the house.
Warning: During the game, never once empty your mouth of the salt water; don't forget to burn the doll, completely. And don't forget to hide.5. The Midnight Game
No. Of. Players: 1 or more
What You Need: A candle, a piece of paper, a writing implement, matches or a lighter, salt, a wooden door, and at least one drop of your own blood.
You start by writing your full name—first, middle and last—on the piece of paper. Put a drop of your blood on the paper and let it soak it in completely. Turn off the lights, go to the wooden door and place the paper with your name, in front of it. Light your candle and place it on top of the paper. Knock on the door 22 times and then, close it. The Midnight Man has entered your house. Pick up the candle again, and start wandering around your house. All you need to do is keep running from him, right till it's 3:33am. If the candle goes out, the Midnight Man is near you. Relight it within the next ten seconds. If you fail to do so, immediately enclose yourself within a circle of salt and remain inside it till 3:33am. The idea is not to get caught.
Warning: During the game, never turn on the lights, do not use a flashlight, or a torch or any other form of light and whatever you do, do not go to sleep. If you do get caught, it is said that you hallucinate your greatest fears and your organs are ripped out one at a time.6. Bath Game
No. Of Player: 1
What You Need: Bathtub and shampoo
Another Japanese origin game, called Daruma-San. You turn off all the lights in your house and go to your bathtub, fill it with water and get in, completely naked. Your head should be on the side that is facing the tap. Now, start washing your hair. And as you start washing your hair, you have to keep repeating these exact words: “Daruma-san fell down.” You have to keep repeating these words throughout the hair wash. You'll start to notice a silhouette of a woman take shape in front of the bathtub. She falls on the tap and injures her eye. You don't stop washing your hair, or repeating the words. When you're done washing your hair, just say this, “Why did you fall in the bathtub?” once. Then, you leave and go to sleep and wait for the next morning. You will start to feel a constant presence around you. Remember to stay away from the presence and maintain a distance. It's about being on the run without letting the presence know that you are. When you feel it getting too close to you, turn around suddenly, pretend to slap with your hand say ‘Kitta'!
Warning: Do not stop midway, while washing your hair and never stop repeating the words till you're absolutely done washing your hair. Don not leave the bathtub halfway through and don't forget to implement the actions to keep away from the spirit.7. The Hooded Man
No. Of Players: 1
What You Need: Some sage, salt, a source of fire, a cleansing ritual and a phone line for later.
Before you start playing the game, you cleanse yourself entirely. Then, burn the sage and spread some salt on your front door. When it's night time, you go and call yourself a cab. Once you're in the cab, shut the door and go to sleep. It is said that you will wake up at exactly 3:30am; you look at the time and then, you g back to sleep. When you wake up again, you will see a hooded man at the steering wheel. The road you're on will seem unfamiliar to you, because you're in another dimension. Other passengers may enter the cab and you ignore them. You keep driving around in the unknown world. And when you want to go back, you simply lean over and whisper to the Hooded Man that you have reached your destination. Then, you fall asleep again. When you wake up, you will find yourself in your house.
Warning: Do not talk to the passengers who board the cab in the new world. Do not ask where you are, or where you are going. Once you begin the ritual, you have to follow through. Whatever you do, do not panic, or call anyone while you're on your way.8. Closet Game
No. Of Players: 1
What You Need: A closet, A matchbox, one unlit match and a lighter for later.
Turn off the lights in your house and enter your closet; make sure it's dark. Once you're standing inside the closet, hold up the unlit match and say the following words out loud: “Show me the light or leave in darkness.” The moment you hear someone whispering near you, light the match. Once you light the match, step out of your closet while making sure that the match doesn't go out.
Warning: Do not fail to light the match, do not look around for the voices and whisperings. Just light the match at that very instant and step out of the closet. And afterwards, be careful about opening and taking things out of your closet as it is said that the demon you summon haunts the closet, ever since.
While these are games, we do not personally know how many of these consequences are actually true. However, you would do well to just pay heed because prevention is always better than cure. Also, if you have a feeling you cannot follow through, never begin these games. At the end, these games are not for the weakhearted and you should try at your own risk.
If any of you have ever played any of these, or other such games, we would love to hear from you. Be careful and stay safe.
