KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar said on Sunday that certain forces are trying to destroy Karachi and politicians are to be blamed if the city turns into ruins.

?Two forces are working for Karachi. One is trying to destroy Karachi while the other is working for its development. Politicians will be responsible if the city turns into Moen Jo Dar,? Sattar said in an address to a ceremony at Expo Centre.

In an apparent jibe at the provincial government, the MQM chief said that his party and the mayor are sitting on the back benches while someone else is running the affairs in Sindh. People holding major government offices in the province are taking commissions worth billions, claimed Sattar, asking for how long would the city?s residents have to tolerate this.

Sattar said that it is the responsibility of the federal and provincial government to work for the betterment of the city and that the prime minister himself said Karachi plays a significant role in the country?s economy.
