Google May Have Paid $3 Billion To Apple To Remain Default Search Engine

In order to be the world's biggest digital company, you've got to penetrate the right platforms in order to make the most amount of money. Judging by a number of iPhones that have been sold all over the world, it would be in Google's best interest to remain as the default search engine. Google pays a substantial amount of money to remain the go-to search engine on iPhones and iPads.

Although, neither company is saying how much money is exchanged between the two, an analysis from Bernstein estimates that Google may be paying as much as $3 billion every year. If this is true, Google may contribute at least 5% to Apple's total earnings.Β

Google has paid Apple at least $1 billion in the past which was discovered through court documents. The $1 billion was paid to Apple by Google from a percentage of revenue that was generated through iPhone and iPad users.

Apple's iOS devices contribute about 50% to Google's earnings from mobile devices and Google would unlikely discontinue the licensing deal as the search engine giant needs Apple's users to generate a high income to remain the biggest digital advertising platform there is. Apple would most likely stick with Google even if the deal was abandoned simply because of its huge popularity, but it seems like Google won't take any chances.

Recently, Apple has been dedicating a lot of time, money and research on their services which could amount to as much as 13% of Apple's total earnings. Apple has been providing platforms like Apple Music from which they draw a considerable amount of revenue. Apple also collects fees from software sold on the App Store which has also been a major contributor to Apple's dominance.
