KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh AD Khawaja said on Thursday that a project to install 10,000 CCTV cameras in the city is underway in order to tackle street crimes.

The IG Sindh was addressing a ceremony in Karachi. He said that street crimes in Karachi are a serious challenge and ordinary measures will not suffice to put an end to them.

To deal with street crimes, a comprehensive strategy is required, said AD Khawaja.

?A new 15 centre is being established in collaboration with the CPLC,? said Khawaja.

IG Sindh said that for tackling the issue the most effective strategy will be to improve the infrastructure of the city, adding that judicial system needs improvement.

IG Sindh claimed that a group involved in the killing of policemen has been killed, but there is more than one group involved in the killings.

Recently, a Quick Response Force has been constituted to help curb the recent surge in street crimes and bank robberies in the city?s District East.

The force comprises 100 police personnel who have been provided 45 motorcycles and vehicles to patrol vulnerable areas, said SSP Karachi East Irfan Baloch on Thursday.

The metropolis has seen a rise in incidents of bank heists and street crimes over the past few months.
