Robot ?Cyberknife? to help fight cancer at Karachi's JPMC


KARACHI: The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre is utilising the help of an expensive robot who assists in diagnosing and treating cancer patients.
Cyberknife is Pakistan?s only robot, whose services are being utilised to help the plight of cancer patients.
According to the incharge Cyberknife Robotic Surgery at JPMC, Dr Tariq Mehmood the robot, bought with the help of patient aid foundation, private institutions and donors, can help treat any type of tumor.
According to officials, in the whole world there are only 150 robots present of this kind. The treatment in the US costs around $60,000, but here the treatment is free.
In JPMC, every year around 5,000 cancer patients are treated.
