A Huge LGBT Victory : Canada Introduces 'X' As A Third Gender Option On Passports
Taking a huge and extremely important step in support of equality, Canada has just introduced a third gender category on its passports. Now, Canadian citizens will be able to declare their genders as ‘X' on their passports, making it easier and more comfortable for people who do not identify as male or female.

Moreover, this new rule is also applicable on other documents issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada department (IRCC), so that people have a better way to define their gender identity.
The Canadian government announced this new rule to have a third gender option in a statement last week, explaining that the ‘X' will indicate that the individual's gender is unspecified.

The statement read : “As Canadians, we know that protecting and promoting fundamental human rights is an imperative for governments and individuals alike. This includes gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
Today's announcement follows steps to protect Canadians in their right to the gender identity of their choice, and freedom of gender expression.”

Ahmed Hussen, Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, added : “All Canadians should feel safe to be themselves, live according to their gender identity and express their gender as they choose.
By introducing an ‘X' gender designation in our government-issued documents, we are taking an important step towards advancing equality for all Canadians regardless of gender identity or expression.”

In an effort to protect the country's citizens' freedom of gender expression, the IRCC is the first Canadian government department to introduce third gender measures. And, that's not all.
In the coming months, there will be more steps taken to protect and reflect the gender identity of people of Canada.
Well, this is a massive and crucial step in the right direction. Good going, Canada!
