KARACHI: MQM-Pakistan leader Khwaja Izhar-ul-Hassan survived an assassination attempt made on him early Saturday morning here in the Bufferzone area, as he was leaving a mosque after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers, Geo News reported.
While Hassan remained uninjured, two of his guards, as well as a fellow citizen, are reportedly wounded by the gunshots, the MQM-P member explained in a statement issued after the attack.
"They were wearing helmets and garbed in police uniforms," Hassan stated, adding that the two attackers opened fire right after they saw him exiting the prayer area.
The three injured people have been moved to the metropolis' Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Senior MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar, while addressing media here following the assassination attempt at Khwaja Izhar, said he strongly condemns the incident.
"Some elements are hell bent on trying to create divides amongst us," Farooq commented. He also slammed the provincial government, saying that "if something happens to any of us, it is the Sindh government that will be responsible".
