Arguably one of the most decorated and prominent sports icon in the country, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has numerous records to his name during his ongoing stint with the Indian cricket. Whether it's about wielding the willow or his lightening-quick hands behind the stumps, Dhoni has been a major asset to the Indian team.
But, during his stint as captain, while the Jharkhand cricketer undeniably took the Indian side to new heights, many believe that he favoured his teammates from IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and was biased towards other cricketers in the selection process.
Despite a dip in form or series of poor performances, Dhoni's stint as captain saw the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja managing to retain their respective places in the Indian team. Whether Dhoni was actually biased or not, remains open to perception, but a similar pattern in the selection process has once again come to fore under the tutelage of Virat Kohli.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 16-man squad for the first three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia, starting from 17 September. On one hand where the likes of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav were seen returning back to the limited-overs squad, young spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel were also given an opportunity on the back of their recent success in Sri Lanka.
While most of the members of the limited-overs squad that decimated the Lankans managed to retain their spot, the biggest surprise came in form of yet another cold shoulder to Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. The omission of senior members of the team led to a massive backlash on the social media with many questioning the Indian cricket board's selection process.
Many Indian fans also saw a pattern similar to the selection process during Dhoni's heydays as captain. A total of four Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players - Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Kedar Jadhav and Chahal - were selected for the upcoming ODIs. And, the fans felt that their selection, which should have ideally been done on merit, was rather made due to their proximity to the Indian captain who also leads the IPL franchise.
Here's a look at how Twitterverse mocked the selection process of India's ODI squad against Australia:

RCB quota won't help you in winning series against Australia. You all are ignoring the facilities of experienced players like Raina & Yuvi.— Aditya Kashyap (@geekyaadi) September 10, 2017
