ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court admitted on Monday a contempt of court petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The petition states that during a speech in Lahore on August 25, Sharif committed contempt of court.

It claims that Sharif spoke of the judiciary?s link with power, which falls under the contempt of court law.

The hearing will be held next month.

During the speech, held at a lawyers' convention in Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Sharif reiterated his stance against the Supreme Court decision which led to his disqualification on July 28.

Addressing the convention, he said that for many years he has been fighting the case of the people and democracy.

Hitting out at the judiciary, he said "our courts have been condoning the rule of dictators and allowing changes to the Constitution. Some judges deteriorated from their oath and supported dictators. No dictator has been punished for abrogating the Constitution. We need to establish sanctity of ballot box".
