RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday said peace has won in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) after a cricket match was held in the tribal area.

General Bajwa also thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Peshawar Zalmi, the participating teams and all others involved in the "successful conduct of historic event".

The army chief further said that the match proved that Pakistanis are a peace loving nation.

"World saw today how a resilient nation overcomes difficult times," said General Bajwa.

He further stated that the world saw the real NWA and Pakistan today.

In a cricket match earlier today, a stellar batting display by buoyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi led Pakistan XI to a 133-run victory over UK Media XI in Miranshah, North Waziristan Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

UK Media XI had won the toss and opted to field at the picturesque Younis Khan Stadium in Miranshah, in a match which is part of a series titled Peace Cup, organised by the Pakistan Army, PCB and PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi.

The UK team was made up of an 18-member group of journalists, lawyers, businessmen and academics aged between 21-62, which is touring Pakistan with the aim to improve the country's image as a sporting nation.
