Senior officials, politicians call on Dawoodi Bohra community leader


KARACHI: Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar called on the leader of the Bohra community at Tahiri Mosque on Sunday.
The three political leaders, hailing from different political parties, met Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin who is in the country for observing Muharram.
Speaking to the media, the governor said establishing peace in the megacity is everyone?s responsibility, whereas the chief minister said they are ensuring that the best security arrangements are in place for Muharram.
The head of the Dawoodi Bohra community arrived in the city on September 14.
Dr Saifuddin, who travelled from India, is expected to narrate events of historical and cultural significance and discuss issues impacting the community.
For Ashra [Muharram 1 to 10], the community has built extensions to their main mosque on II Chundrigar Road to double the capacity of the complex.
Moreover, the hotels near Bohra community's Taheri Masjid have been completely booked and bus companies have also been hired to ferry attendees from different parts of the city.
