ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said on Thursday that today our society and state are still lost despite the passage of 70 years.

Talking about the supremacy of Parliament, Rabbani, a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, said Parliament has to make the budget and decide the number of Supreme Court judges.

Speaking at a seminar at the National Press Club, Rabbani said we need to make [people] understand that Parliament is the jugular vein of the country and federation.

"If the jugular is cut then the body will continue to suffer," he remarked.

The veteran politician said Parliament will have to play its role to face the immense internal and external challenges facing the country.

Rabbani cautioned that stability is the need of the hour, stressing that "we have to improve our shortcomings".

He added that Parliament will have to become a transparent institution that delivers on people?s issues.

"If the average person?s ownership will be inside Parliament, then there will not be any 'intervals'," he said, on the anniversary of the October 12, 1999 coup by then army chief General Pervez Musharraf.
