When you think of Tom Cruise, one of the first things that comes to mind is 'Top Gun'. It's such a classic and his portrayal of U.S. Naval Aviator Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is what made Cruise a full-fledged movie star.

And, now after 31 years, the sequel is finally here! Well, not quite. But, at least we know 'Top Gun: Maverick' has been in the pipeline for a while, and now we have some more information about this much-awaited sequel.

Well, spoilers lie ahead if you haven't managed to watch this movie is three decades! In the original 'Top Gun', while Tom Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell made it out of the 1980s military classic unscathed, his buddy, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, wasn't so lucky. Since Goose's tragic death marked a significant turning point in 'Top Gun', we will still feel his presence in the sequel, but a little indirectly.

The upcoming movie will reportedly pit Maverick against Goose's son, Wrigley. The present-day Maverickwill be shown as a flight instructor and mentor to the next generation of hotshot pilots, while Wrigley will be a twenty something Ivy League grad who boasts All-American good looks and has a lot in common with Cruise's character. But, that doesn't mean they will get on well as Wrigley pretty much blames Maverick for his father's death.

Along with this information about Goose's son, The Hashtag Show also revealed details about nine new characters who will appear in the sequel, from pilots in the Top Gun training program like Sugar and Ryan "Kansas" Kendrick to superior officers like Admiral Robby "Caspar" Benjamin. However, one character that stood out was Penny Benjamin, who will be Maverick's new love interest.

Even though we have to wait a long time for this movie, all this new information and scoop is enough, for now, to make everyone excited. 'Top Gun: Maverick' is all set to fly into theatres on 12 July 2019.
