When it comes to the game of cricket, the glorious history of the sport has been witness to interruptions of all kinds. Whether it's incessant rain, butt-naked streakers or stray animals, the proceedings during cricket matches have often been disrupted due to one of those reasons.

But, during the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh at the Palam Air Force Ground, the play came to an abrupt halt for a more bizarre reason.

The third day's play between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh was disrupted after a mystery man drove his WagonR onto the playing field and subsequently, on the pitch. The perpetrator, identified as Girish Sharma, is alleged to have been suffering from depression and is currently under treatment.

Sharma entered the complex and instead moving towards the designated parking lot, which is behind the main pavilion, he took a detour entering from the Palam B complex into the field of play and took couple of rounds of the pitch before trying to leave the ground.

A senior Indian Air Force official revealed that at around 4.30 pm, a security guard of the IAF was checking a BCCI vehicle when he spotted the Wagon R enter the ground. “The entry gate is adjacent to the Air Force station and can be accessed from main road. When the driver entered the ground, our staff closed the gate to prevent him from escaping. He was caught and handed over to police,” the official told the HT.

The major security breach did leave the officials dumbfounded, but the cricketers, especially Ishant Sharma saw the lighter side of it before taking to Twitter to share the photos of the bizarre incident.
