LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday summoned secretary environment after it questioned measures taken to deal with smog blanketing Punjab.

The LHC also remarked that smog has affected the province during previous years and asked measures taken by the provincial government during the past year to deal with the situation.

The entirety of Lahore is covered in smog, remarked the court.

At least four people have been killed and 44 injured in smog-related accidents in Hafizabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Kashmore and Gujranwala.

Besides road accidents, the supply of electricity to many areas was affected as power lines have been tripping due to the dense smog.

A total of 1,750 megawatt of electricity shortfall was reported after the high transmission lines of Guddu Thermal Power Plant tripped.

Larkana, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Rahim Yar Khan, Jaffarabad and many areas of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan were without electricity for over 12 hours before maintenance teams were able to repair the transmission lines on Monday evening.

Residents of various parts of Punjab continue to face health and commutation problems as smog engulfs most parts of the province, including province's capital Lahore.
