KARACHI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed Tuesday said the rejection of a proposed constitutional amendment by the National Assembly is not a "victory" of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

In his video message, Rasheed noted that around 40 members of the treasury were missing from voting on the constitutional amendment bill, despite the fact the government had all the resources at its disposal and Rs21 billion development programmes announced.

The National Assembly Tuesday rejected a proposed constitutional amendment seeking to bar disqualified members from heading a political party.

The proposed legislation sought to deprive Nawaz Sharif, who has thrice been the prime minister of Pakistan, of the ruling party's leadership.

"Out of more than 200 members from the ruling party and allies, only 163 voted in their favour," he said, adding, "And then they term it their victory. No!"

The AML chief said his petition against a disqualified member leading a political party is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning.

"We will fight our case in the apex court tomorrow and we will continue to fight thieves, robbers and corrupt elements until the last drop of our blood," he resolved.
